A sheet handling method and a sheet handling system in which various types of sheets can be easily determined in a short period of time, which contributes to increasing efficiency in subsequent application processing in a financial institution or the like. The system includes terminal equipment disposed in an office or the like of a financial institution and center apparatus disposed in a financial institution unit or in a store control unit. Image data read by the terminal equipment from a sheet to be processed is received from an image reader and is edited into image data in a predetermined format. The image data is sent to the center apparatus in which image data of a specified recognition area is separated from the image data received from the terminal equipment, contents described on the sheet are recognized according to the image data separated. Moreover, image data of a specified area is separated from the received image data, and a sheet image corresponding to the image data separated and a result of the recognition are displayed in parallel with each other.

Sheet handling system

A form sheet type determining method and apparatus for determining to which of predetermined form sheets an input form sheet corresponds. A plurality of sets of keywords are registered in a keyword register with one set of keywords for each predetermined form sheet type; image data of an input form sheet is read, character strings are extracted from the read image data, and character recognition is performed on each extracted character string; each of the character recognized strings is extracted as a keyword; the extracted keywords are collated, for each form sheet type, with the sets of keywords registered in the keyword register, thereby to determine the type of the input form sheet.

Method and apparatus for determining form sheet type

There is provided an automatic processing apparatus which can protect the secret items of the validator, easily provide a measure for change of bank note and reduce the manufacturing cost. A validation processing unit provided in the side of an automatic processing apparatus to validate the bank note is mounted in the side of a host computer and a unit for transferring the feature data obtained with the sensor unit to the host computer from the automatic processing apparatus and a unit for transferring the validation result obtained with the validation processing unit to the automatic processing apparatus from the host computer are also provided. On the occasion of executing the discrimination process with one unit or a plurality of units of the host computer for a plurality of automatic processing apparatuses, the apparatus ID number for validating the feature data and apparatus is transferred to the host computer from the automatic processing apparatus.

Automatic currency processing system

A business form handling system includes an image reading device for reading a business form and a terminal apparatus installed at the window for discriminatively deciding whether a read image corresponds to a first species of business form by referencing form species identifying definition information stored previously in a file. When the read image corresponds to the first species of business form, the terminal apparatus cuts an image from a field corresponding to a format inherent to the first species of business form to thereby recognize contents of statement from the cut image and executes processing in accordance with result of the recognition. Unless the read image corresponds to the first species of business form, the terminal apparatus decides discriminatively whether the read image corresponds to a second species of business form by referencing the form species identifying definition information. When the correspondence is found, the terminal apparatus cuts an image from a field corresponding to a format inherent to the second species of business form to thereby recognize contents of statement from the cut image.

Business form handling method and system for carrying out the same

A character reading method has enhanced character segmentation accuracy and character string recognition accuracy for reading correctly hand-written addresses on postal matters. The method extracts provisional character patterns from image information of the address character string (step,), creates a table,of tentative character patterns and implements the character classification for the tentative character patterns (step,), extracts, specifically for characters of the street number portion of the address character string, periphery information (vertical and horizontal lengths, vertical/horizontal length ratio, pattern spacings, etc.) of tentative character patterns (step,), and segments the character string into characters accurately based on the information (step,).

Method of reading characters and method of reading postal addresses

A document processing method and system are provided in which data is inscribed as handwritten information on a blank form in a document form hitherto used or a blank form for a document produced by a word processor or the like. The blank form with the handwritten information data is facsimile-input and is transmitted to a computer which in turn receives the data directly and recognizes the received data to process the document. Initially, the contents or format of a blank form are read to obtain and store information regarding ruled lines and handwritten character input areas. Upon execution of document processing, an input document image received via facsimile is searched for reference ruled lines on the basis of the ruled line information initially stored to positionally adjust the document image and ruled line images in handwritten character input areas are erased from the adjusted document image on the basis of the handwritten character input area information initially stored to recognized handwritten characters. A function of returning the result of recognition or the result of processing by the computer to a sender facsimile or a function of eliminating improper facsimile transmission may be provided by receiving a sender facsimile number as data upon reception of the facsimile document image and storing it or comparing the received number with transmission-allowed facsimile numbers previously registered.
