Provided is a joined body including a piezoelectric substrate and a polycrystalline spinel substrate provided on one main surface of the piezoelectric substrate, wherein a ratio T1/T2 between T1 and T2 is 0.1 or less, where the T1 represents an average thickness of the piezoelectric substrate and the T2 represents an average thickness of the polycrystalline spinel substrate, and the polycrystalline spinel substrate has a TTV of 1.5 μm or less in a main surface which contacts the piezoelectric substrate.

A ceramic substrate is formed of polycrystalline ceramic and has a supporting main surface. At the supporting main surface of the ceramic substrate, the mean of grain sizes of the polycrystalline ceramic is 0.5 &#x3bc;m or more and less than 15 &#x3bc;m and the standard deviation of the grain sizes is less than 1.5 times the mean.

A ceramic substrate is formed of polycrystalline ceramic and has a supporting main surface. At the supporting main surface of the ceramic substrate, the mean of grain sizes of the polycrystalline ceramic is 15 &#x3bc;m or more and less than 40 &#x3bc;m and the standard deviation of the grain sizes is less than 1.5 times the mean.

A layered body includes a ceramic substrate formed of a polycrystalline ceramic and having a supporting main surface and a piezoelectric substrate formed of a piezoelectric material and having a bonding main surface that bonds to the supporting main surface through Van der Waals force. The ceramic substrate includes a supporting main surface amorphous layer formed so as to include the supporting main surface. The piezoelectric substrate includes a bonding main surface amorphous layer formed so as to include the bonding main surface. The supporting main surface amorphous layer has a smaller thickness than the bonding main surface amorphous layer.

There is provided a sintered body that does not readily deform during use and that allows a high flexibility for the design of surface layers, a method for manufacturing the sintered body, and an optical component including the sintered body. The method for manufacturing a sintered body includes a sintered body having a predetermined shape, the sintered body having a ceramic base material, the method for manufacturing a sintered body comprising a step for preparing a ceramic preform, a step for using a predetermined mold having an upper die and a lower die to hot-press the ceramic preform to form a pressure-sintered body, and a step for cooling the pressure-sintered body while applying a pressure load of approximately 5% or more and 100% or less (and preferably approximately 20% or more and 40% or less) of the pressure load applied during the step for forming the pressure-sintered body.

Sintered compact, process for production thereof, and optical element

A diffractive optical element () composed of a ceramic, in which the optical characteristics are enhanced by enhancing the machining precision, is composed of an infrared-transmissive ceramic, and prominent portions () and groove portions () are repeatedly formed on a surface of the diffractive optical element (). The average value of the surface roughness Ra within an optical effective area () of the surface of the diffractive optical element is 0.05 &#x3bc;m or less, and the difference in the surface roughness Ra within the optical effective area () of the surface is 0.02 &#x3bc;m or less.

Diffractive optical element and method of manufacturing the same

A lower periphery constraint portion and an upper periphery constraint portion for molding the periphery of a lens as well as a mirror-finished optical molding surface and another mirror-finished optical molding surface are formed on a lower mold body and an upper mold body of a mold respectively. The upper periphery constraint portion and the lower periphery constraint portion are so formed as to have prescribed thicknesses &#x3b1;1 and &#x3b1;2 in a pressure axis direction respectively. A periphery nonconstraint portion not constraining ceramics when molding a ceramics material is provided between the lower mold body and the upper mold body. Thus, a ceramics molded component or the like is prevented from breakage and can be easily detached from the mold, so that the same can be more homogeneously densified.

Method of manufacturing ceramics molded component and mold employed therefor as well as ceramic component

In methods of manufacturing optical components for infrared-light or ultraviolet-light applications, by lessening the expense consumed during finishing processes, a technique for manufacturing ceramic optical components inexpensively is realized. Raw material powders whose main constituent is ZnS, ZnSe or Ge, for ceramics for infrared-light optical components, and whose main constituent is CaFor MaF, for ceramics for ultraviolet-light optical components, are molded into molded masses; the molded masses are sintered into sinters; and by pressing the sinters through a heating and compressing process, net-shape ceramic sinters can be produced. Alternatively, a finishing process is carried out after they are pressed into near-net shape. By shaping into net shape or near-net shape, the finishing process can be omitted, or the finishing process time and processing expense taken up can be decreased.

Method of manufacturing ceramic optical components

An optical component formed of a material that blocks noise-causing visible and near-infrared rays selectively or as a whole while transmitting far-infrared rays to the extent possible, and a method for producing the component. The component is produced by adding at least one additive that blocks visible and near-infrared rays to a ceramic material of ZnS, ZnSe, or Ge. The component is most suitable for a particular purpose or use of an optical component, such as a window or lens to be used in a high-performance infrared apparatus, because noise-causing visible and near-infrared rays are blocked.
