A projector system includes a plurality of projectors. The plurality of projectors generates an image based on input video data, superimpose the image, and display a display image. The projector includes a video data processor and a liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device switches the images for each frame and displays the images in a frame-sequential manner. The video data processor includes sub-frame data conversion tables and sub-frame data generators. The sub-frame data generators convert the video data into pieces of sub-frame data based on the sub-frame data conversion tables.

Projector system and camera

A pixel portion has a liquid crystal sandwiched between a pixel electrode and a common electrode. The liquid crystal is driven in response to a potential difference between a voltage applied to the pixel electrode and a voltage applied to the common electrode, and incident light is modulated in the liquid crystal in response to the potential difference. A drive portion has: a transistor that has a gate terminal connected to the row scanning line, is subjected to a conduction control based on a row selection signal supplied to the row scanning line, and selectively receives a pixel signal supplied to a column data line; a holding capacitance portion that holds the pixel signal selectively received from the column data line through the transistor; and a gate capacitance portion having one electrode portion connected to the gate terminal of the transistor, and the other electrode portion given a reference voltage.

Liquid crystal display device

A first linearly polarized bundle of rays of incident rays is converted by optical modulation with an input video signal into a second linearly polarized bundle of rays orthogonal to the first rays in polarization. The first rays pass through a polarizer before optically modulated. A second linearly polarized bundle of rays originally involved in the incident rays is reflected by the polarizer in a first direction. The second rays obtained by the optical modulation are reflected by the polarizer in a second direction. The second rays reflected in the second direction pass through another polarizer. A first linearly polarized bundle of rays involved in the reflected second rays is reflected by the other polarizer. The reflected first rays is detected by an optical sensor that is positioned outside an optical path of the second rays originally involved in the incident rays and reflected in the first direction.

Light modulator, projection display apparatus and image projection method

A liquid crystal display apparatus is composed of a plurality of pixels, a plurality of switches and a driver circuit for driving the plurality of switches. Each of the plurality of pixels is provided with a liquid crystal element in which a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between a pixel driving electrode and a common electrode confronting with each other, a first sampling and holding circuit, a second sampling and holding circuit and a switching device. The switching device switches a positive image signal voltage and a negative image signal voltage, and supplies the positive and negative image signal voltages alternately to the pixel driving electrode.

Liquid crystal display apparatus, and driving circuit and driving method thereof

Light in primary colors RGB modulated in a first modulation optical system is transmitted through a relay lens () and further divided into a P-polarized light and an S-polarized light by a PS separation wire grid (). The S-polarized light is transmitted through a wavelength spectral filter () to select red/green/blue light components R, G, Bof 615, 515, 450 nm in wavelength, which are then modulated by a Ydevice (). The P-polarized light is transmitted through a wavelength spectral filter () to select red/green/blue light components R, G, Bof 650, 550, 475 nm in wavelength, which are then modulated by a Ydevice (). The 3 -primary color lights modulated by the Y/Ydevices (), () are combined with each other at a PS composite wire grid () to project a synthetic light on a screen.

Optical system and projection display device

A liquid crystal display apparatus has a transparent substrate having a transparent common electrode formed thereon; an active matrix substrate having pixels with reflective pixel electrodes, the pixels being formed in column and row directions on the matrix substrate in a matrix fashion, each pixel having a switching transistor with a gate, a drain and a source, and a signal-charging capacitor; a liquid crystal layer provided between the common electrode and the pixel electrode; a column-signal electrode driver and a row-scanning electrode driver for activating the matrix substrate; column-signal electrodes connected to the column-signal electrode driver, the gate being connected to each column-signal electrode; and row-scanning electrodes connected to the row-scanning electrode driver, the drain being connected to each row-scanning electrode, each pixel electrode being provided at an intersection of each column-signal electrode and each row-scanning electrode, each pixel electrode and the capacitor being connected to the source. The matrix substrate has a first, a second, a third, and a fourth metal layer formed in order, via interlayer insulating layers between adjacent layers, on a wiring layer having the gate formed therein. The column-signal and row-scanning electrodes are formed in the first and second metal layers, respectively. Or, the column-signal electrodes and the row-scanning electrodes are formed in the second and the first layer, respectively. Wirings for carrying signals to be displayed are connected to the column-signal electrode driver, each wiring having a first wiring portion and a second wiring portion formed in the second and third metal layers, respectively, the first and second portions being electrically connected to each other through a via hole between the second and third metal layers.

Reflective active matrix liquid crystal display and apparatus

An active matrix LCD defines a display signal period and a reset period in each vertical scan period. The display signal period is a period to write and hold display signals in pixels in response to a row select pulse generated from an output pulse of a first shift register (SR). The reset period is a period to write and hold a reset voltage in the pixels in response to a row select pulse generated from an output pulse of a second shift register (SR). The ratio of the display signal period to the reset period is adjustable in units of horizontal scan time by changing the number 'n' of horizontal scan periods to be passed between the time when the first shift register receives a scan start signal (WT) and the time when the second shift register receives a scan start signal (Reset).

Active matrix liquid crystal display

In a liquid crystal display, a metal layer forms a first light blocking layer having an opening that is shifted from gaps between adjacent reflective electrodes. Accordingly, light entering the gaps is blocked by the metal layer and does not directly reach lower layers. Between the reverses of the reflective electrodes and the surface of the light blocking layer made of the metal layer, light may be reflected multiple times and may leak through the opening of the light blocking layer toward lower layers than the metal layer. Such leakage of light is blocked by wiring regions that cover transistor diffusion regions, respectively. As a result, light is substantially completely blocked before reaching the diffusion regions, i.e., photosensitive regions of first and second transistors.

Liquid crystal display

A video signal of the non-interlaced scanning type is converted into a video signal of the interlaced scanning type by alternately selecting odd-number horizontal scanning line signals or even-number horizontal scanning line signals in synchronism with the start timing of each field period. The polarity of the video signal is inverted every vertical scanning period. During a first vertical scanning period, the odd-number video signal is written to respective sets of two neighboring line scanning electrodes (G,, G,), (G,, G,), (G,, G,), - - - . During a second vertical scanning period, the even-number video signal is written to another sets of two neighboring line scanning electrodes (G,, G,), (G,, G,), (G,, G,), - - - . The time axis of each horizontal scanning period is doubled. The drive frequency of a row signal electrode drive circuit is halved.

Active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus used for a video display system

An input analog video signal is converted into digital video data. The digital video data is inverted to inverted digital video data. The digital video data and the inverted digital video data are selectively output for each one field period of the input analog video signal. The selectively output digital video data and the inverted digital video data are converted into a first and a second analog video signal. The first and second analog video signals are adjusted at different first and second bias voltage levels, respectively. The adjusted first and second analog video signals are selectively output to a liquid crystal display device for each one field period. It is preferable to output the same digital video data twice for each one field period before inversion. In this case, the digital video data and the inverted digital video data are selectively output for each &frac12; field period, and the adjusted first and second analog video signals are selectively output for each &frac12; field period.

Apparatus and method of displaying image by liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal displaying apparatus has an active matrix liquid crystal display provided with a plurality of liquid crystal displaying devices arranged in a horizontal and a vertical direction to form a matrix. The apparatus further includes a horizontal driver provided along rows of the devices, a first vertical driver provided along the leftmost column of the devices and a second vertical driver provided along the rightmost column of the devices. The horizontal driver supplies video signals to the devices by scanning the devices left to right or right to left in a direction of the rows. The first vertical driver supplies control signals to the liquid crystal display to turn on the devices from the leftmost to the rightmost column of the devices when the horizontal driver scans the devices left to right in the direction of the rows. On the other hand, the second vertical driver supplies control signals to the liquid crystal display to turn on the devices from the rightmost to the leftmost column of the devices when the horizontal driver scans the devices right to left in the direction of the rows. The horizontal driver may include a first horizontal driving section provided along the uppermost row of the devices and a second horizontal driving section provided along the lowermost row of the devices. The first horizontal driving section scans the devices left to right in the direction of the rows or the second horizontal driving section scans the devices right to left in the direction of the rows in response to a selection signal.

Apparatus and method of driving active matrix liquid crystal display

A plurality of pixel elements are arranged in a matrix layout, and an alternating current exciting signal having a plurality of exciting pulses is supplied to each pixel element. Each pixel element has a first MOS-FET in which one picture signal is received at a drain every one horizontal scanning period, one scanning signal is received at a gate every one frame period and a charge signal having a charge voltage relating to a picture voltage of the picture signal is output from a source, a second MOS-FET in which the alternating current exciting signal is received at a drain, the charge signal is received at a gate and a pixel electrode voltage of a pixel electrode signal relating to the charge voltage is output from a source, a condenser for maintaining the charge voltage of the charge signal until a next frame period, and a liquid crystal displaying device for emitting light according to the pixel electrode signal to display a pixel image. Because the pixel electrode voltage relates to the picture voltage, a brightness of the pixel image relates to the picture signal, so that an excellent displaying characteristic in gray scale. Also, a frequency of the pixel electrode signal is the same as that of the alternating current exciting signal, so that any flicker in an image composed of the pixel images can be prevented.

A liquid-crystal display apparatus includes a layer of liquid crystal. A matrix array is composed of scanning electrodes and signal electrodes. The scanning electrodes extend along a matrix row direction. The signal electrodes extend along a matrix column direction. Switching circuit elements are located at respective places where the scanning electrodes intersect with the signal electrodes. Pixel electrodes connected to the switching circuit elements are operative for controlling portions of the liquid-crystal layer respectively. A first device is operative for driving the scanning electrodes. A second device is operative for delaying a first video signal into a second video signal. A third device is operative for alternately selecting one out of the first video signal and the second video signal to generate a third video signal in response to the first video signal and the second video signal. A fourth device is operative for periodically inverting a polarity of the third video signal at a timing synchronous with alternately selecting by the third device to convert the third video signal into a fourth video signal. A fifth device is operative for feeding the fourth video signal to the signal electrodes.

In an information recording apparatus, light containing information to be recorded is generated, and a photo-to-electric converting device serves to convert the light into a charge latent image. The photo-to-electric converting device includes a photoconductive member exposed to the light. Information corresponding to the charge latent image is recorded on a recording medium. A first recording device serves to record main information on a first region of the recording medium. A second recording device separate from the first recording device serves to record sub information on a second region of the recording medium. The second region is different from the first region.

A system has a first electrode, a second electrode, a photosensitive member located between the first and second electrodes, a recording member located between the first and second electrodes, and an optical shutter. In this system, light having information to be recorded is applied to the photosensitive member. The light information is recorded on the recording member. An exposure amount of the light with respect to the photosensitive member is set by setting a time during which the optical shutter remains open. A drive voltage of a predetermined variation is applied between the first and second electrodes during the recording of the light information on the recording member. The predetermined voltage between the first and second electrodes is controlled in response to a sensed intensity of reference light which passes through the photo-modulation member.
