The invention provides a network system which can prevent an illegal access to a network or the like set in a specific area and improve security of the network. The network system permits the entering of the user into a security area in accordance with security information (user ID) read out of a contactless IC in a carrying ID card by an entering/leaving room managing apparatus and registers an MAC address of a notebook computer carried by the user when he enters the security area to a managing server as ID information corresponding to the user ID. When a leaving request of the user is received through the entering/leaving room managing apparatus, the network system deletes the registered ID information and restricts connection between the notebook computer and the network on the basis of a registration situation of the ID information to the managing server.

When a packet received in a deep sleep mode matches a packet stored in a WOL-pattern storage region, a network portion performs reply processing suited for the matched packet after returning a power supply mode of a power supply unit from the deep sleep mode to a normal mode. When the packet received in the deep sleep mode matches a packet stored in a proxy-response-pattern storage region, the network portion performs reply processing suited for the matched packet while maintaining the power supply mode of the power supply unit at the deep sleep mode.

In a computer system including a job scheduler which divides an input job and determines a client apparatus to assign the divided job, and a task manager which transmits the divided job to the client apparatus determined by the job scheduler, the job scheduler assigns the same job to a plurality of client apparatuses when the number of client apparatuses is larger than the number of divided jobs, and when the job is finished in one of the plurality of client apparatuses assigned the same job, execution of the job in the remaining client apparatuses is canceled so that the time until all jobs are finished is shortened.

Even when a CPU gains higher performance and a distributed computing environment is being put in place, it is not easy to follow the speed of hardware image processing implemented by dedicated hardware. Hence, jobs of filter processing having a heavy operation load and low distributability are selectively and intensively input to a small number of resources having performance as high as possible. On the other hand, since the color conversion processing and gamma processing have high distributability, even when jobs are input to many resources having low performance, an improvement of the processing speed can be expected. Therefor, color conversion processing and gamma processing distribute jobs to many resources.

When the distributed load system of grid computing is applied to printers, multi-functional peripheral equipments, and the like connected to a computer network, if a device which inputs a job received from the client is executing processing, the distributed processing requires much time, and the user of the client cannot obtain the print result soon. Hence, when a print job is input, the processing time upon executing distributed processing of data processes in the print job by computer devices connected to the computer network is estimated. Based on the estimation result, the print job or jobs divided from the print job are transmitted to the computer devices connected to the computer network.

An image output request (representing that image data is stored in a memory) is transmitted from the system on the transmitting side to the system on the receiving side. This image output request includes information such as the name of transmission source and an area where the image data is stored. Upon reception of this image output request, the system on the receiving side notifies the system on the transmitting side of reception of this request. The network is temporarily disconnected. When a predetermined time has elapsed, the system on the receiving side connects the network on the basis of the received image output request and reads out and outputs the image data stored in the memory in the system on the transmitting side. Upon reception of the image data, the system on the receiving side notifies the system on the transmitting side of reception of this data.

Data communication apparatus and method

An image transfer method and an image transfer system use a system having a personal computer (PC) and a facsimile apparatus and another system having another facsimile apparatus and a plurality of photocopiers which are connected by a local area network (LAN). Both systems are connected to a public circuit. The two facsimile apparatuses are connected by the public circuit. One photocopier to which image data generated by the PC is outputted is designated. The page-description language capable of being processed by the designated photocopier is automatically selected, and the image data is generated based on the selected page-description language, and is transferred to the designated photocopier. In addition, in accordance with a communication load of the LAN, connection to the public circuit is broken or restored. The optimum page-description language selected based on the function of each photocopier is transferred to the photocopier capable of processing the selected optimum page-description language, and subsequently, the connection to the public circuit is broken.
