In a packaging body provided with at least an inner layer composed of a thermal-adhesive polyolefin based resin and a barrier layer composed of a metal foil, in which metal terminals are sealed by the thermal-adhesive resin with unconnected ends of the metal terminals protruding outside, an adhesive sheet for sealing metal terminals of a flat electrochemical cell which is not only able to prevent a short circuit between the barrier layer and the metal terminals but high in a layer-to-layer adhesive strength and a low possibility of a reduction in battery performance to be caused due to invasion of moisture is provided. In the adhesive sheet for sealing a metal terminal part of a flat electrochemical cell according to the invention, a fibrous sheet or a porous sheet is covered by the inner layer and an acid-modified polyolefin based resin layer having adhesive properties.

An electrochemical cell packaging material includes the following in a laminated structure: a substrate layer that, at a minimum, includes resin film; a protective layer that is arranged as the outermost layer and protects the substrate layer; a thermal adhesion layer that is arranged as the innermost layer and which includes thermal adhesion resin; and a barrier layer that includes metal foil and is arranged between the substrate layer and the thermal adhesion layer. The protective layer is formed of an epoxy resin that has bisphenol A or bisphenol F as an element in the backbone.

The base layer () and the innermost layer () are bonded to the chemical conversion coatings () of the aluminum layer () with adhesive layers (), respectively.

A method for manufacturing an electrochemical cell includes housing a main cell body in an outer packaging body of packaging material formed by laminating a metal foil layer and a heat-sealable resin layer, provided the tip ends of a first metal terminal and a second metal terminal are protruding outside the outer packaging body, heat-sealing a peripheral edge portion of the outer packaging body so the outer packaging body has the first and second terminals protruding; applying a voltage between the first terminal and the foil layer or between the second terminal and the foil layer; and inspecting for insulation failure from a short circuit between the first or second terminal and the foil layer or from a crack in the heat-sealable resin layer, based on a variation of a voltage held between the one of the metal terminals and the metal foil layer after halting the voltage.

In a packaging material for electrochemical cell, a thermally adhesive resin layer is configured of a resin having a propylene based elastomer resin in a propylene based resin. This propylene based elastomer resin is a copolymer composed of a constitutional unit derived from propylene and a constitutional unit derived from an &#x3b1;-olefin having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; when the total sum of the constitutional unit derived from propylene and the constitutional unit derived from an &#x3b1;-olefin is defined as 100% by mole, contains 50% by mole or more of the constitutional unit derived from propylene; and is satisfied with (a) a Shore A hardness (ASTM D2240) of from 65 to 90, (b) a melting point of from 130 to 170&#xb0; C., (c) a density (ASTM D1505) of from 860 to 875 kg/mand (d) a glass transition temperature as measured by DSC of from &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;35&#xb0; C.

A fluororesin layer, formed by a fluorine-containing copolymer having a crosslinking group and a curing agent that reacts with the crosslinking group, is formed between the olefinic resin layer and the thermal bonding resin layer.

The container comprises a paper cup body with a bottom, which has an inner surface coated with a polyolefin resin and is provided with an outward curled portion formed at an upper opening end of the cup body and at least one horizontal rib formed on a side wall of the cup body so as to project outward therefrom; and an inverse-frustoconical paper sleeve provided with an inward curled portion formed at a lower end of the sleeve. Disclosed is a packaging material for forming an armor body for a battery, the armor body being adapted for use in such a manner that a battery body is inserted into the armor body and the peripheral edge of the armor body is then heat sealed for hermetic sealing, the packaging material being a laminate comprising at least a substrate layer, an adhesive layer, a barrier layer, a dry laminate layer, and a sealant layer, characterized in that at least the sealant layer comprises a low-fluidity polypropylene layer having low susceptibility to collapse upon exposure to heat and pressure at the time of heat sealing and a high-fluidity polypropylene layer having high susceptibility to collapse upon exposure to heat and pressure at the time of heat sealing, and the innermost layer is the high-fluidity polypropylene layer. This battery packaging material can impart moisture barrier properties and resistance to contents of the battery.
