A computer system includes a plurality of server apparatus, a plurality of storage apparatus, a management computer, and a management computer. The management computer stores a server rank which represents a rank of a throughput of a server apparatus, and a storage rank which represents a rank of a throughput of a storage apparatus. Each of the plurality of server apparatuses executes a plurality of virtual machines, and stores a required server rank and a required storage rank. If it is determined that a virtual machine should be migrated on the basis of a load on the plurality of virtual machines, the management computer selects a server apparatus having a server rank equal to the required server rank as a destination server apparatus, and selects a storage apparatus having a storage rank equal to the required storage rank as a destination storage apparatus.

The present invention is able to improve the processing performance of a storage system by respectively virtualizing the external volumes and enabling the shared use of such external volumes by a plurality of available virtualization storage devices. Provided is a storage system comprising a plurality of storage subsystem in which each storage subsystem includes a storage resource and controls access from a host system to the storage resource of the storage subsystem. The storage system is capable of simply and promptly changing the operation of a storage subsystem between operating as a stand-alone system and virtualize the plurality of storage subsystems logically into one virtual storage subsystem and execute a first mode of causing a host system to recognize the virtual storage subsystem. The storage is further able to execute a second mode of causing the host system to recognize the plurality of storage subsystems respectively as separate storage subsystems.

There is provided a storage system including a file server connecting to a computer over a network and a storage apparatus connecting to the file server connecting over the network, wherein the file server includes a first controller, the storage apparatus includes multiple storage devices having multiple storage areas and a second controller that controls accesses to the multiple storage areas, each of the multiple storage areas has at least one power saving mode among multiple power saving modes with different shift times from the power saving modes to a ready mode, the first controller, in response to the reception of data from the computer, sets an indicator relating to the performance of response to an access from the computer to the data and refers to the indicator of the data and selects a first storage area having the power saving mode satisfying the indicator, and the second controller stores the data to the first storage area.

The storage control apparatus of the present invention saves a table for managing a virtual volume in a pool and keeps the state of the table in the latest state. A first dynamic mapping table (DMT) that manages a first virtual volume is saved in a first pool. Upon receipt of a write command relating to an unused virtual slot from a write command issuing device, a first virtual volume control unit assigns an unused real slot in the first pool to the virtual slot and updates the first DMT. The first virtual volume control unit discriminates the validity of the received data and, in cases where '0' data are received, releases the assigned real slot, updates the first DMT once again, and discards the received data. In cases where the received data are valid data, de-staging is performed following a DMT update.

With such a configuration, the storage device can achieve reduction of power consumption, simplification of management, and increase of use efficiency of storage resources.

A snapshot acquisition control program detects the checkpoint process externally to the DBMS and creates a snapshot in an external storage according to the timing of the checkpoint. Correspondence between checkpoints and snapshots is maintained in a CP-SH correspondence management table to make it possible to restore in a short time data at the time of an arbitrary checkpoint.
