An image sensor unit includes a fixed substrate, a movable substrate, an actuate section including an actuator for moving the movable substrate against the fixed substrate, an image sensor having an imaging surface on a front surface of the image sensor, and at least, a part of a rear surface of the image sensor being directly fixed onto the movable substrate, an external electrical connecting member for conducting a transmission and reception of signals between the actuate section and the image sensor and an outside of the image sensor unit, and an internal electrical connecting member electrically connects the actuate section, the image sensor and the external connection wiring, wherein the actuate section, the image sensor, the internal connection wiring and a part of the external connection wiring are sealed into the same space.

The modulator includes: a variable refractive index part that is able to deflect an incident light; element pairs arranged at intervals in a concentric shape or the like generally oppositely to each other with interposition of the variable refractive index part; and a voltage applier for applying a voltage across the elements, wherein width of an element non-opposition region located between element opposition regions is wider than that of each inter-element element opposition region where the elements of each element pair face each other, and wherein the refractive index distribution of the variable refractive index part in the element non-opposition region is varied by the voltage applied to the adjacent element pairs, so that the focal position is varied.

An apparatus has a member to be driven, an actuator for driving the member, a position detector and a controller. The actuator drives the member to move by an amount proportional to a given number of pulses. The position detector detects a position of the member in predetermined detection steps. The controller determines in steps smaller than the predetermined detection steps a target position up to which the member is to be moved. Then, it controls the actuator up to a detection-step position before the target position by closed-loop control in accordance with a detection result from the detector. Further, it controls the actuator from the detection step position to the target position by open-loop control.
