A linear motor driven conveyor apparatus is disclosed for conveying trucks carrying articles to be processed through a paint booth or other treatment area having a dirt-laden atmosphere, and water supply means are provided to produce a continuously flowing film of water over the upper surfaces of the primary members of the linear motor to keep such surfaces free of contaminants.

A linear motor driven conveyor which includes a carrier rail and primary members provided within a pit, main trolleys adapted to run along the carrier rail and connected with a carrying frame, and front and rear trolleys. The connecting members are pivotably connected vertically and horizontally with each trolley within the pit, the lower surfaces of the connecting members each having a reaction plate of a linear induction motor.

There is disclosed a truck for use with a linear motor drive conveyor for conveying articles such as automotive bodies through a paint station. Shield means are provided carried by the reaction plate which in turn is carried by the truck. The shield means includes a central flat plate and downturned side edges which overlie and protect the gap between the reaction plate and the primary members of the linear motor from paint or other foreign particles.

The L-shaped hanger may be suspended through a C-shaped fitting, the opening of the C shape facing toward the load supporting portion of the hanger; and a foreign matter shield may be provided having both a horizontal plate member projecting into the opening of the C shape and an upright plate member.

Conveyor assemblies adapted for use in painting booths, embodying conveyor units having upper and lower frames spaced apart by post portions aligned in the direction of travel. A dust cover encloses the drive mechanism and has a top wall between the upper and lower frames. A slot is provided to permit passage of the aligned post portions, and the slot is covered by a resilient flexible flap which can be displaced by the post portions as they travel through the slot. The drive mechanism includes alternative drive chains, one of which has a pusher for effecting advance of the units, the other of which has a bifurcated coupling which may effect both advance and retraction of the units along their path of travel. The lower frame has swivelable wheels which may ride in the elevated wheel-guide tracks in the painting booth to provide stabilization of the frame against lateral sway.

Storage arrangement for truck conveyor trolleys is provided wherein trolley units are designed to run within a conveyance path defined by a trolley rail. The trolley units are engageable with a truck for receiving articles to be carried and can be attached and detached from the truck by positioning the trolley units on segmented rail portions integrally formed as part of the trolley running rail. By raising or lowering the scissioned rail segments with the trolley units positioned thereon, the trolley units will automatically engage with and disengage from the truck. Once disconnected from the truck, the trolley units can be stored in large numbers in a storage place, either on the rail segments or on separate storage rails.

A truck conveyor for conveying an article along a selected conveyance path is provided. The truck conveyor includes a series of trolleys which are guided along a trolley rail. An article carrier for receiving articles is connected with the series of trolleys for conveying an article along the rail. A drive mechanism engageable with the trolleys is provided for conveying the trolleys and the article carrier along the rail. A device is provided at the rear of a stopped carrier to automatically disengage the drive mechanism from the trolleys of a trailing carrier when it is carried toward engagement with the stopped article carrier.
