An apparatus for detecting a gap in the junction area on a folded box which is made of a sheet of smooth corrugated fiberboard by folding the latter while both the folded ends are located opposite to one another with the gap interposed therebetween. The apparatus includes detectors which are disposed along the moving track of the folded box. Each of the detectors includes a slit formed on the moving track at a substantially right angle relative to the latter, the width of the slit being dimensioned more than that of the gap in the junction area on the box, two inclined passages formed in the detector to reach the slit, each of the inclined passages having the substantially same inclination angle relative to the moving track, a light beam emitting mechanism disposed in one of the inclined passages to emit light beam toward the slit and a number of optical fibers longitudinally disposed in the other inclined passage so as to allow reflected light beam to be transmitted therethrough. According to the invention it is possible to detect abnormality relative to quality of the folded box and moreover carry out monitoring in the course of many steps of production. When an incorrectly folded box is detected, it is removed from the production line by operating a removing device which can be operatively associated with an automatic control system. Thus, maintaining high quality of products and saving of manpower are assured.

Apparatus for detecting a gap in the junction area on a folded box

A cutting apparatus cuts a plate such as a corrugated cardboard or a steel plate into a predetermined size with a knife cylinder and includes a knife cylinder driver for controlling rotation speed of the knife cylinders by motors. The apparatus includes a speed compensator for producing a torque command signal so that there is no difference between a command rotating speed and a detected motor speed and a plurality of motor torque control device including a torque compensator for producing a motor command signal by proportional control so that there is no difference between the torque command signal from the speed compensator and a torque detecting signal, power amplifiers composed of transistors and which amplify the motor command signal from the torque compensator to produce a motor applied voltage and motors, particularly brushless motors controlled by the motor applied voltage from the power amplifiers, whereby transistor type power amplifiers having excellent response of speed can be used, the cutting accuracy and high speed cutting performance for the plate can be improved, and the proportional control is adopted to the torque compensator so that the dispersion of load to the motors is minimized.

Apparatus for cutting a plate into a predetermined size

A sheet stacker for a corrugation machine having a cutter to widthwisely cut off a continuously manufactured corrugated cardboard web into corrugated cardboard sheets, and then transfer, stack and eject the sheets. The sheet stacker comprises: a shingling conveyor arranged downstream of an outlet of the cutter for shingling the sheets; braking apparatus arranged above the shingling conveyor for braking the sheets transferred from the cutter; a first transfer conveyor arranged downstream of the shingling conveyor and which is vertically pivotable about its end portions on the upstream side thereof; a stopper disposed between the shingling conveyor and the first transfer conveyor for selectively stopping the sheets; at least one second transfer conveyor arranged in the downstream of the first transfer conveyor; a sheet stacking mechanism disposed downstream of the second transfer conveyor and which is vertically movable for receiving and stacking the sheets discharged from the second transfer conveyor; a drive mechanism for moving the sheet stacking mechanism up and down at a variable speed; and an adjustment mechanism for controlling the drive mechanism in response to the magnitude of a sheet stacking speed to thereby adjust a descent speed of the sheet stacking mechanism.
