In a combustor for supplying combustion heat to a heater core and an intake side of an engine, when the engine is started, combustion gas is supplied to an intake side of the engine while non-combustion air is introduced into a combustion gas passage partitioned from a water passage of the heater core by a heat-conduction partition member. In this case, non-combustion air is used as an air curtain for interrupting a heat transmission from the combustion gas of the combustion gas passage to water of the water passage.

Combustor with non-combustion air introduction

A combustion type heater of this invention includes fuel distribution means for distributing a fuel to the whole surface of a wick disposed upstream of the wick in a fuel passage. The fuel distribution means comprises fuel distribution grooves and a fuel dispersion plate having a large number of holes bored therein. The fuel distribution means can quickly supply the fuel to the whole surface of the wick. To shorten the heating time of the wick, the heater of the present invention uses a wick heating glow plug outside an ignition glow plug or a planar heater for heating the wick.

Combustion type heater

A heating apparatus for a vehicle includes a heat exchanger for heating air blown into a passenger compartment by using cooling water for cooling an engine as a heating source, and a combustor for heating cooling water flowing into the heat exchanger. When the combustor is stopped, exhaust gas of the engine is introduced into the combustor so that the exhaust gas of the engine is heat-exchanged with cooling water in the combustor, and is introduced into an intake pipe of the engine. Therefore, exhaust gas of the engine, introducing into the intake pipe of the engine, is cooled in the combustor without an additional heat exchanger provided in an engine compartment.

Vehicle heating apparatus having combustor

A condenser is connected to an outlet of a compressor. An expansion valve is connected to the condenser. An evaporator is connected between the expansion valve and an inlet of the compressor. A sensor detects a condition of refrigerant at an outlet side of the evaporator. A variation in rate of refrigerant flow into the evaporator is detected. A control device determines a variation in the detected condition of refrigerant which occurs in response to the variation in the rate of refrigerant flow. The control device judges a quantity of refrigerant to be insufficient when the determined variation in the refrigerant condition is equal to or smaller than a reference value.

Refrigeration system

A rotary compressor comprises an input shaft, a compressor component and a clutch component movable between an engaged position where the compressor component is connected to the input shaft to allow a torque to be transmitted from the input shaft to the compressor component and a disengaged position where the compressor component is disconnected from the input shaft to prevent the torque from being transmitted from the input shaft to the compressor component. A hydraulic pump is drivingly connected to the input shaft to discharge a pressurized working fluid upon the rotation of the input shaft. The clutch component includes a clutch member disposed within a clutch cylinder and cooperating therewith to define a pressure chamber. A valve unit is movable between a position where the pressurized working fluid from the pump is allowed to be applied to the pressure chamber to cause the clutch member to be engaged with a rotor member of the compressor component thereby moving the clutch component to the engaged position and a position where the pressurized working fluid from the pump is prevented from being applied to the pressure chamber to prevent the clutch member from engaging with the rotor member to move the clutch component to the disengaged position.

A variable capacity vane type compressor has an unloading mechanism operative to relieve a part of compressed fluid from a working chamber when in its compression stroke and an additional mechanism for controlling the suction of fluid into the compressor. The additional mechanism has a spool valve movable to a position to restrict the opening area of the compressor suction port. The spool valve is disposed in a passage communicated with the suction port and with a working chamber when in its compression stroke. The spool valve is formed therein with another passage which, when the spool valve is in the position to restrict the suction port, communicates the compression chamber with the suction port to relieve a part of the compressed fluid.

Variable capacity vane type compressor

A refrigeration system comprises a refrigeration cycle including a compressor of a variable capacity type for compressing a refrigerant and an evaporator for evaporating the compressed refrigerant. A driving source is connected to the compressor through a clutch movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position. A first detector detects pressure of the refrigerant evaporated by the evaporator to generate a signal. A second detector detects temperature relating to a cooling condition of the evaporator to generate a signal. A capacity control unit controls a discharge capacity of the compressor so as to cause the pressure detected by the first detector to approach an aimed pressure. A clutch control unit is operative in response to the signals from the respective first and second detectors to judge a condition of frosting on the evaporator for controlling the clutch for movement between the engaged and disengaged positions and to judge an insufficiency in quantity of the refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle for controlling the clutch for movement to the disengaged position.

Temperature and pressure monitored refrigeration system

An automotive air conditioning system has refrigeration devices, heating devices and a single chip microcomputer. The refrigeration devices include a variable displacement refrigeration compressor drivingly connectable by an electromagnetic clutch to an automotive engine and a refrigerant evaporator disposed in an air duct, through which air is caused to flow by a blower. The heating devices include a heater core disposed downstream of the refrigerant evaporator, through which heated air is caused to flow, and an air mixing damper which regulates the quantity of air to be introduced into the heater core. A condition relating to the air conditioning operation such as the temperature of the vehicle is detected by a sensor. The microcomputer receives the signals from the sensor, calculates a required injection temperature, compares the required injection temperature and a preset standard temperature, a lower standard temperature and a higher standard temperature and produces operating signals. The operating signals manage the connection of the electromagnetic clutch, vary the displacement of the refrigeration compressor, regulate the degree of opening of the air mixing damper and control the rotating velocity of the blower.

Automotive air conditioning system with automatic control of

A refrigeration system for an automotive air conditioner includes an evaporator and a variable displacement refrigerant compressor adapted to be driven by an automotive engine. In order to control the refrigeration system, detectors are provided to detect a condition related to the cooling operation of the evaporator, such as air temperature just downstream of the evaporator or the refrigerant pressure, and to detect air temperature in the occupant compartment of the automobile, ambient air temperature outside the automobile or intake air temperature upstream of the evaporator. Signals emitted by the detectors are utilized to control the compressor operation such that the displacement capacity of the compressor is varied stepwise and the compressor is operated intermittently whereby the load on the engine is reduced and the frosting of the evaporator is prevented.

Method of controlling refrigeration system for automotive air conditioner

A variable capacity compressor has a low-pressure chamber, a high-pressure chamber receiving the discharge of some cylinders and a discharge chamber receiving the discharge of other cylinders. An on-off valve between the discharge chamber and low-pressure chamber is actuated by an electric device, such as a servo motor. An electric circuit controls the servo motor so that it is driven for a certain time period in response to a signal to change the compressor capacity. A device operative with the on-off valve moves the valve forward or backward according to the rotation of the servo motor and makes the motor idle when it reaches the fore or back end of movable space. A plunger is inserted in a pressure room which receives the fluid pressure from the high-pressure chamber, and the device for moving the on-off valve is placed in the pressure room so that it directly or indirectly moves the on-off valve and can also operate as an opening or closing device for control of the valve of a connecting port between the high-pressure chamber and the pressure room.

Variable capacity compressor

An automotive air conditioner has an air duct in which a refrigerant evaporator of a refrigeration cycle is disposed in fluid-flow communication with a variable capacity refrigerant compressor driven by an automotive engine and provided with compressor displacement varying members. A blower is provided to cause air to flow through the evaporator and through the duct into the passenger compartment. A sensor is provided to detect a condition representing the cooling operation of the evaporator, such as the air temperature downstream of the evaporator, surface temperature thereof or the pressure of the refrigerant at the evaporator. An electric controlling circuit is operative in response to signals from the sensor to actuate a servo motor which in turn drives the compressor displacement varying members whereby the capacity of the compressor is varied in accordance with the condition detected by the sensor.

An automotive air conditioner has an air duct in which a refrigerant evaporator of a refrigeration cycle is disposed in fluid-flow communication with a variable capacity refrigerant compressor to be drivingly connected to or disconnected from an automotive engine and provided with compressor displacement varying members. The position of the compressor displacement varying members is electronically controlled such that they are placed in the minimum compressor displacement position each time when the compressor operation is started.

Automotive refrigeration system

An apparatus for controlling an air conditioner having a refrigeration cycle including an evaporator disposed in an air passage for supplying air to an area to be air-conditioned and a compressor having a mechanism for varying a volume of discharge from the compressor, comprises signal generator responsive to a humidity in the area to be air-conditioned for producing a signal indicative of the humidity; and means responsive to the signal from the signal generator for actuating the mechanism for varying the volume of discharge from the compressor.
