A dielectric material comprising: a glass powder constituted of a glass comprising Si, B and an alkali metal element, the glass being amorphous in sintering at a temperature of 1,050&#xb0; C. or lower; and a ceramic filler comprising at least one member of SiO, AlOand 3AlO.2SiO, and an alkali metal element, wherein when a total sum of Si converted into SiO, B converted into BOand the alkali metal element converted into AO, wherein A represents an alkali metal element, all of which are contained in the glass, is 100 mole %, the content of the alkali metal element converted into AO, which is contained in the glass, is 0.5 mole % or less; and when a total sum of at least one member of SiO, AlOand 3AlO.2SiO, and the alkali metal element converted into AO, all of which are contained in the ceramic filler, is 100 mole %, a content of the alkali metal element converted into AO, which is contained in the ceramic filler, is 0.5 mole % or less.

Dielectric material and dielectric sintered body, and wiring board using the same

A low-temperature firing ceramic composition contains Sr MgSi O crystals forming a major crystal phase of the composition. This composition can be produced, for example, by a process including the steps of (a) mixing together a silica powder, a magnesia powder and a strontium oxide powder to obtain a powder mixture; (b) subjecting the powder mixture to a calcination at a temperature of 1,000-1,200&deg; C. to obtain a calcination product containing Sr MgSi O crystals; (c) mixing the calcination product with alumina powder, boron oxide powder, lithium oxide powder, binder and ethanol to obtain a powder mixture; (d) granulating the powder mixture; (e) shaping the resulting granules into a green body; (f) compacting the green body by a hydrostatic pressing (CIP); and (g) firing the resulting compact in an atmosphere of air, thereby obtaining the composition. A wiring substrate includes a laminate of green sheets, each containing Sr MgSi O crystals, and a wiring pattern formed in an inside of the laminate and/or on a surface of the laminate.
