A method for manufacturing a composite metal alloy. An Mg material as an alloy base material and a carbon nanomaterial are mixed together to obtain a mixture in which the Mg material is covered with particles of the carbon nanomaterial. The mixture of the Mg material and carbon nanomaterial are sintered to obtain an Mg sintered compact including the carbon nanomaterial. The Mg sintered compact including the carbon nanomaterial is dissolved to obtain a melt of the composite metal alloy.

A method for producing a carbon nanocomposite metal material with increased carbon nanomaterial dispersibility and increased binding between carbon nanomaterial and matrix metal stock is disclosed. A preform obtained by mixing a matrix metal stock and microparticulate-coated carbon nanomaterial without the need for a dispersant and then compacting the material is maintained for a set time period at a temperature that is at or above the melting point of the matrix metal stock. In this state, the heat-treated body is reduced to a temperature that allows hot working, and a compacting treatment is performed.

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a composite of a carbon nanomaterial and a metallic material which has a homogeneous composite metal structure and thixotropic properties by compositing a metallic material of a non-ferrous metal alloy with a carbon nanomaterial by using both stirring and ultrasonic vibration. The method comprises compositing the metallic material of the non-ferrous metal alloy with the carbon nanomaterial by adding the carbon nanomaterial in a state where the metallic material shows thixotropic properties by spheroidization of solid phase in a semi-solid state, and the compositing is performed by a process for stirring and kneading the semi-solid metallic material while keeping the temperature thereof at a solid-liquid coexisting temperature, and a process for dispersing the carbon nanomaterial to liquid phase between solid phases by ultrasonic vibration.

For observing a flow of molten resin in an injection molding apparatus, a transparent cylinder, which is formed of transparent glass or transparent plastic material, is used in place of a mold of the apparatus. A carbon nano material and a resin binder are plasticized and injection molded to form a preliminarily molded member. The preliminarily molded member is degreased by a heat treatment and made to a preliminarily molded porous member composed of the carbon nano material. A low melting point metal material is made to a thixotropic state in which liquid phases and solid phases coexists. In the thixotropic state of the low melting point metal material, a carbon nano material is kneaded with the low melting point metal material and forms a composite material. Thus obtained composite material is supplied to a metal molding machine and injected into a mold in a thixotropic state or a completely molten state of the metal so that the composite material fills the mold, thereby the composite material is molded to a composite metal product. With the above process, it is possible to injection mold the composite metal product to which the characteristics of the carbon nano material are applied.

In a method for controlling an injection molding machine, a screw is advanced from an injection start position by means of velocity control, and when the screw reaches a control changeover point, pressure control is effected in place of the velocity control to apply pressure to the screw. Preliminary molding is performed to obtain an acceptable product; a total charged amount of resin during the preliminary mold is obtained on the basis of a movement distance over which the screw has moved before reaching the control changeover point during the preliminary mold; and the total charged amount is stored as a changeover target value. During ordinary molding, a total charged amount of resin is obtained on the basis of a movement distance over which the screw advances from the injection start position; and pressure control is started when the total charged amount reaches the changeover target value. Thus, the total amount of resin charged into a mold cavity in each molding cycle becomes constant without being affected by the charging pressure and temperature of the resin.

A screw injecting apparatus includes a check valve mounted on the tip end portion of a screw and adapted to be opened and closed in response to rotation of the screw, and a control for controlling operation of the screw such that in a metering phase of molding process, the screw rotates in one direction to feed a melt of molding material toward the nozzle while the check valve is in an open state, when a metered amount of melt is accumulated forward of the tip end portion, the screw moves backward by a predetermined distance to reduce a reaction from the melt accumulated around the tip end portion, thereafter, the screw rotates in the reverse direction to close the check valve and cause the screw to advance until the amount of forward movement of the screw becomes substantially equal to the predetermined distance of backward movement achieved previously.
