A split-type connector () has a holder () and auxiliary connectors () that can be mounted in the holder (). Split-type connector and connector assembly

A connector assembly has a split-type connector ( ) configured for insertion into a receptacle ( ) of a mating connector ( )i. The split-type connector ( ) has a holder ( ) and auxiliary connectors ( ) that can be mounted in the holder ( ). A retainer ( ) is mountable in the holder ( ) and can be moved from a first position where the auxiliary connectors ( ) can be mounted in the holder ( ) and a second position where the auxiliary connectors ( ) are locked. The receptacle ( ) has dovetail grooves ( ) and the holder ( ) has dovetail ribs ( ) that engage to prevent the receptacle ( ) from deforming away from the outer surface of a holder ( ).

Female and male connectors ( ) are provided on body and trim panels ( ), respectively. Connector construction and a method for connecting a pair of connectors

A lever-type connector assembly has mating female and male connectors ( ). The female connector ( ) has a lever ( ) with a cam plate ( ) and a resilient lock ( ) that is deformable within the plane of the cam plate ( ). The resilient lock ( ) engages a receiving portion ( A) on the female connector ( ) for holding the lever ( ) at an initial position. The connector ( ) has an unlocking rib ( ) that deforms the resilient lock ( ) out of engagement with the receiving portion ( A). As a result, the lever ( ) can rotate for connecting the connectors ( ). Since the resilient lock ( ) deforms in the plane of the cam plate ( ), there is no need to provide space for deformation of the resilient lock ( ) along a thickness direction of the cam plate ( ).

Lever-type connector assembly

A connector has L-shaped female terminal fittings ( ), and wires ( ) are fastened to a wire fastening portion ( ) at one side of the L-shaped female terminal fitting ( ). The female terminal fittings ( ) are accommodated in a connector housing, and the wires ( ) are pulled out in a direction normal to a connector connecting direction. Thus it is not necessary to provide a space to bend the wires ( ) behind the connector with respect to the connecting direction, and the wires ( ) can be handled easily even if there is little space behind the connector.

Connector

A female terminal fitting ( ) has a main body ( ) in the form of a rectangular tube. An elastic contact piece ( ) is formed by folding back an extending part of a vertical wall ( ) on the main body ( ). An accommodation space ( ) is defined in the main body ( ) upward from the elastic contact piece ( ). A male terminal fitting ( ) can be inserted into the accommodation space ( ) and displaced downward to bring the male terminal fitting ( ) into contact with the elastic contact piece ( ). Restricting projections ( ) project from upper and lower sides of the elastic contact piece ( ) and are held in contact with a receiving portion ( ) that bulges out from the vertical wall ( ). The restricting projections ( ) prevent the elastic contact piece ( ) from being deformed in response to forces exerted by the male terminal fitting ( ).

Female terminal fitting

When the holder is assembled to the male side housing 10 (stationary side housing), the cam grooves respectively engage with the cam pins , so that the female side housing (movable side housing) is displaced in a direction perpendicular to the assembling direction and located at the connecting position, so that both the terminal metal fittings are connected with each other. At this time, due to the friction caused between the terminal metal fittings , a force resisting displacement of the female side housing and also resisting assembly of the holder is generated. However, a cam action is exerted by the cam grooves which are oblique with respect to the assembling direction. Therefore, an intensity of the operation force to be given to the holder in the assembling direction is low. When the above structure is adopted, it is unnecessary to provide a manual operation member which is independent as an assembly force reducing means.

A shielding terminal includes an inner terminal to be connected with a core , an outer terminal to be connected with a braided wire , a dielectric element for insulating the two terminals and from each other, and a cover to be mounted on an upper portion of the outer terminal . After the core is fastened to an inner fastening portion of the inner terminal outside the outer terminal , the inner terminal is inserted into the dielectric element . An outer fastening portion of the outer terminal is crimped into connection with a section A of the braided wire folded back around an end of a sheath . In the center of the outer terminal , the upper surface is opened to provide an open space A. The fastened portion of the core is covered on four sides by mounting the cover to cover the open space A.

Shielding terminal and method for connecting a shielding terminal

A connector is provided to enhance a force of a retainer for locking terminal fittings. The connector has a housing formed with a retainer mount hole . A retainer is provided for insertion into the retainer mount hole . Locking projections are formed on the retainer and are engaged with terminal fittings , to prevent the terminal fittings from coming out of the housing . End locking portions are provided at the opposite ends of the retainer , and intermediate locking portions are provided between the end locking portions . The female housing is provided with end and intermediate receiving portions corresponding to the end and intermediate locking portions . Partial and full locking portions for holding the retainer in its partial and full locking positions are formed in the end and intermediate receiving portions . If the retainer has a long width, its force to lock the terminal fittings may be reduced at and near the center of the female housing . However, since the corresponding pairs of locking portions and receiving portions are provided in intermediate positions, a sufficient locking force can be ensured.

A terminal is provided for stable mounting at a predetermined position of the leading end of a coaxial cable. The terminal has rear side formed with a barrel to be crimped into connection with the coaxial cable . A cover is integrally provided before the barrel for covering an exposed section of a core of the coaxial cable . An embossed positioning portion is formed between the barrel and the cover . When the terminal is mounted on a stripped end of the cable , the front end of a folded section A contacts a locking edge C of the positioning portion , thereby restricting any further insertion of the coaxial cable . Thus, the terminal can be automatically positioned on the coaxial cable with respect to the longitudinal direction of the coaxial cable

Terminal for a cable and method for mounting a terminal

Chained terminals ( ) are formed such that a multitude of terminal fitting pieces ( ) are connected in parallel with a lateral edge of a carrier ( ) in the form of a long strip, and are wound around and dispensed from a reel ( ) with an interlayer sheet ( ) laid underneath. Each terminal fitting piece ( ) is formed with projections ( ) projecting in a direction normal to a radial direction of the reel ( ), i.e. a direction along the plane of the interlayer sheet ( ). Thus, the projections ( ) neither stick into the interlayer sheet ( ) nor are deformed by being caught in by the interlayer sheet ( ). Protecting portions ( ) are aligned with the projections ( ) but extend further from the carrier ( ) for protecting the projections ( ).

Chained terminals and method for forming such chained terminals

A shielded connector is provided with an improved shielding characteristic. The shielded connector includes male and female shielded connectors (,). A section of an inner conductor (,) of a shielded cable (,) that is not covered by an outer conductor (,) and a portion of an inner terminal (,) at and near an inner crimping portion (,) that is fastened to the leading end of the inner conductor (,) are covered on three sides by a covering portion (,). Accordingly, shielding characteristic can be improved remarkably. By connecting the male and female shielded connectors (,) with opening surfaces of the covering portions (,) thereof faced in opposite directions, radiation characteristic can be balanced. Therefore, an influence on a high-frequency signal transmitting through the inner conductor (,) can be reduced when it is passing through the shielded connectors (,), with the result that shielding characteristic can be improved.

Shielded connector, a set of shielded connectors and method for connecting a shielded connector with a shielded cable

A terminal is provided for secure electrical connection to a shielded cable. The outer conductor,of the cable,is exposed and folded onto the sheath. A folded portion,is placed on a bottom portion,of the terminal while a bottom projection,at the bottom portion 48 of an outer terminal,bites into the folded portion. A crimping piece,of the outer terminal,is brought into close contact with the outer surface of the folded portion,and an upper projection,on the crimping piece,bites into a sheath,of the folded portion,A crimping piece,is brought into close contact with the outer surface of the folded portion,and the end thereof is placed on that of the crimping piece,The outer crimping portion,squeezes the sheath,and is crimped while being held in close contact with the sheath,beneath the folded portion,and the two projections,bite into the sheath,Since the folded portion,and the outer crimping portion,are electrically connected to a sufficient degree and a sufficient fastening force can be obtained, a stable electrical connection can be established.

Terminal and crimping method

An inner terminal,is accommodated in an accommodating portion,of an outer terminal,via a dielectric element,. A core,of a shielded cable,is fastened to an inner fastening portion,of the inner terminal,outside the outer terminal,, and then the inner terminal,is inserted into the dielectric element,. A braided wire,is folded back around an end of a sheath,, and an outer fastening portion,of the outer terminal,is fastened to a folded portion,A thereof. A covering wall portion,in which only the upper surface is open is provided between the accommodating portion,and the outer fastening portion,of the outer terminal,, and the inner fastening portion,is located in the covering wall portion,. Upon the completion of crimping, the shielding terminal,is fixed by inserting the cover,into the opening,A of the covering wall portion,and thereby elastically holding the outer fastening portion,by holding pieces,of a clip portion,from opposite lateral sides. As a result, the core,has its fastened portion and a portion near it covered on four sides by conductive members.

A connection element receptacle,for accommodating an electrical connection element,is provided inside a connector housing,A retainer,for locking the electrical connection element,is mounted in a retainer mount hole,formed in the upper surface of the connector housing,Further, a ground terminal receptacle,for accommodating a ground terminal,is provided in the bottom wall of the connection element receptacle,In this way, since the retainer,is assembled at the side of the electrical connection element,opposite from the ground terminal,it can be constructed as a so-called side retainer.
