In a state where a distance from an ejection port surface of an ejection head to a predetermined position corresponds to a first distance, a period detection unit detects a first period from when ejection of a droplet from an ejection port is started until when a droplet detection unit detects the droplet, and in a state where the distance from the ejection port surface of the ejection head to the predetermined position is changed to a second distance by a change unit, the period detection unit detects a second period from when ejection of a droplet from the ejection port is started until when the droplet detection unit detects the droplet, the second distance being different from the first distance. A calculation unit calculates an ejection speed of the droplet, based on the first distance, the second distance, the first period, and the second period.

An embodiment of the present invention is a printing apparatus including: a print head including a plurality of nozzles configured to eject droplets onto a print medium; a control unit configured to control driving of each of the plurality of nozzles to eject the droplets; and an inspection unit configured to inspect whether or not each of the plurality of nozzles is able to eject the droplets normally by driving the print head by the control unit, wherein in a case where the inspection unit inspects one target nozzle among the plurality of nozzles, the control unit drives the target nozzle and one or more neighboring nozzles arranged near the target nozzle.

A roll sheet with a continuous sheet wound in a roll form is rotated in a forward direction to supply the sheet to a printing unit. A sensor whose output is changed in accordance with a distance between the sensor and the sheet is used. A rotation direction of the roll sheet is switched from an opposite direction to the forward direction on the basis of the output of the sensor during rotation of the roll sheet in the opposite direction.

Printing apparatus

A roll sheet, in which a continuous sheet is wound in a roll form, is caused to rotate in a forward direction to supply the sheet to a printing unit. First and second sensors are arranged at positions facing an outer circumferential surface of the roll sheet and deviated in an axis line direction of the roll sheet. Outputs of the first and second sensors are changed in accordance with a distance to a sheet of the roll sheet. A rotation direction of the roll sheet is switched from a forward direction to a reverse direction on the basis of the outputs of the first and second sensors while the roll sheet is being rotated in the reverse direction.

A sheet supplying apparatus, which is capable of winding a sheet tightly, includes a driving unit configured to cause a roll including a wound consecutive sheet to rotate in a first direction for feeding the sheet or a second direction opposite to the first direction, a sensor that detects a leading end portion of the sheet separated from an outer circumferential surface of the roll, and a contact body that presses the outer circumferential surface. Before the sheet is fed, in a state in which the contact body presses the outer circumferential surface, the driving unit causes the roll to continuously rotate in the second direction until a detection cycle of the leading end portion by the sensor is less than a predetermined value.

Sheet supplying apparatus and printing apparatus

Automatic sheet feeding of an installed roll is performed more reliably. To this end, a leading end of a sheet is detected on the basis of a change in an output value of a sensor while causing a roll to rotate in a winding direction using a sensor capable of detecting a distance to the sheet separated from the roll. After the detection, the roll is caused to rotate in a feeding direction, and a feeding state of the sheet is determined on the basis of a change in the output value of the sensor.

A sheet supplying apparatus, in which a user can select either automatic sheet feeding or manual sheet feeding, includes a driving unit configured to cause a roll including a wound consecutive sheet to rotate in a first direction for feeding the sheet or a second direction opposite to the first direction, a first sensor that detects a leading end portion of the sheet separated from an outer circumferential surface of the roll, a second sensor that detects the leading end portion which is manually set in a conveyance path by the user, and a determination unit configured to determine whether or not automatic sheet feeding is performed on the basis of a detection result of the second sensor.
