An optical device includes a concave-convex structure layer having a concavo-convex structure on a surface thereof, the concavo-convex structure formed of a plurality of convexities or a plurality of concavities which are arranged with a sub-wavelength period, a high refractive index layer made of a material having a refractive index higher than that of the concavo-convex structure layer and located on the concavo-convex structure while having a surface conforming to the concavo-convex structure, and a low refractive index layer made of a material having a refractive index lower than that of the high refractive index layer and located on the high refractive index layer. The high refractive layer includes first grating high refractive index portions located at a bottom of the concavo-convex structure to form a first sub-wavelength grating, and second grating high refractive index portions located at a top of the concavo-convex structure to form a second sub-wavelength grating.

Optical device and method of producing optical device

An optical device including a concavo-convex structure layer composed of a plurality of protrusions arranged having a subwavelength period; a high refractive index layer located on the concavo-convex structure and having a surface shape following the concavo-convex structure; and a low refractive index layer located on the high refractive index layer and having a surface shape following a concavo-convex structure on a surface of the high refractive index layer. The high refractive index layer includes a first grating high refractive index region located on a bottom of the concavo-convex structure to form a subwavelength grating, and a second grating high refractive index region located on a top of the concavo-convex structure to form a subwavelength grating. The high refractive index layer has a refractive index higher than both the refractive indices of the concavo-convex structure layer and the low refractive index layer.

A wavelength selection filter includes a first high refractive index section with a thickness T1, a second high refractive index section with a thickness T2, a high refractive index layer with a refractive index n1, a projection-depression structure layer with a refractive index n2, a filling layer with a refractive index n3, a first high refractive index section with an area ratio R1, and a second high refractive index section with an area ratio R2. With n1>n2, n1>n3, and R1+R2>1, the value of T1×{n1×R1+n2×(1−R1)} is a first parameter, the value of T2×{n1×R2+n3×(1−R2)} is a second parameter, and the ratio of the second parameter to the first parameter is 0.7 or more and 1.3 or less.

Wavelength selection filter, method of manufacturing wavelength selection filter, and display device

A display with a plurality of display elements each composed of an uneven layer having an uneven structure and a multilayer film layer provided on the uneven structure. A pattern formed by convexities can be divided into shape elements each arranged in each of a plurality of virtual rectangles, when viewed from a direction facing the uneven layer, and each of the shape elements arranged in each of the virtual rectangles is inscribed in the rectangle in which the shape element is arranged. The plurality of virtual rectangles each have sides along a first direction and sides along a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, and a length of the side along the first direction is less than or equal to a sub wavelength.

A display is provided with a periodic structure that is dielectric and includes a support and a plurality of periodic elements. A plurality of periodic elements is arranged on a reference plane in a two-dimensional lattice form having a sub-wavelength period and are either convexities projected or concavities recessed in the reference plane. A metal layer is disposed on a surface of the periodic structure. The surface corresponds to a plane including a region of the reference plane surrounding the individual periodic elements and surfaces of the periodic elements. The metal layer's profile conforms to a surface profile of the periodic structure. The plurality of periodic elements have an interval therebetween in a first direction in which the plurality of periodic elements are arranged in a two-dimensional lattice form. The interval is different from an interval between the periodic elements in a second direction intersecting the first direction.

A color developing structure that exhibits good color development and ensures a desired transmittance while diffusing reflected light in multiple directions. A color developing structure includes a concave-convex layer in which a first surface has a concave-convex structure, and a reflective layer formed on the first surface to extend along the concave-convex structure. A convex surface of the concave-convex structure has a first pattern composed of a plurality of strip portions in plan view. The strip portion has a width in a first direction and a length in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The width is smaller than the wavelength of the incident light, and a standard deviation of the lengths of the plurality of strip portions is larger than a standard deviation of the widths.

Color developing structure having concave-convex layer, method for producing such structure, and display

A display element including a layer with a protrusion-recess structure and a multilayer film layer disposed on the protrusion-recess structure and with a surface shape following the protrusion-recess structure. A pattern formed by the protrusion includes a plurality of shape elements when the protrusion-recess structure is viewed in a direction perpendicular to the surface. Each shape element has a length extending in one extending direction, larger than a length in a width direction perpendicular to the extending direction. The length in the width direction is equal to or less than a sub-wavelength. A standard deviation of the length in the extending direction is larger than a standard deviation of the length in the width direction. The display elements include a first display element and a second display element. The extending directions of the first display element and the second display element are different from each other.

An optical device comprises a support having a reference plane, and a dielectric periodic structure including a plurality of periodic elements which are arranged, on the reference plane, in a two-dimensional lattice having a sub-wavelength spacing and are either projections projecting from the reference plane or recesses depressed from the reference plane. The optical device further includes a metal layer, which is positioned on a surface of the periodic structure including a region of the reference plane surrounding the individual periodic elements and the surfaces of the periodic elements and which has a shape that follows the surface profile of the periodic structure.

A color developing structure capable of achieving multi-hued color through a simple process, and a method of producing the same are provided. In the color developing structure formed on a surface of a base material: the color developing structure has a rectangular shape in plan view, and is formed of a concavo-convex structure having a plurality of convexities with different heights and a laminated film including a plurality of layers laminated on the concavo-convex structure; the plurality of layers adjoining in a lamination direction are made of materials that transmit light of the same wavelength band and have different refractive indices with respect to light of the wavelength band; and the plurality of layers have about the same thickness.
