In a mobile communication system having an ATM-processed transfer path, a non-instantaneous interrupt handover can be realized. In a mobile communication network including an ATM-processed transfer path, when a mobile station is moved between cells during communication, frames are received to be identified by a mobile switching center. The frames contain the same data received from both base stations covering the cell range at asynchronous timing different from each other. A selection is made of header information with the lowest error rate from the header information of these frames. The frames are connected at instructed timing. Also, the frames to be transmitted to a plurality of base stations are duplicated, and then transmission timing is specified from these header information. These duplicated frames are transmitted at the specified transmission timing, so that the non-instantaneous interrupt handover is carried out.

A communication system includes a control unit, a switch and a diversity hand-over processing unit connected to the control unit and the switch for receiving both a first communication signal received from a radio base station which outputs the hand-over instruction, and a second communication signal received from another radio base station to which the communication signal will be hand-over so as to output one of the first and second communication signals to the associated interface circuit. The diversity hand-over processing unit transmits the communication signal received through the radio base station from the mobile station on the reception side for communication to both the interface circuit associated with the radio base station as a source of hand-over and the interface circuit associated with the radio base station as a destination of hand-over.

A switching method, switching equipment and a switching network are provided by each of which the data is transferred economically and with small transfer delay and the unit to which the data is to be transferred is selected every channel. In AAL type apparatuses, CPS packets a, b, c and d in which the voice data signals are encoded and the like are processed with an AAL type 2 to be multiplexed in ATM cells. The ATM cells in which the CPS packets are multiplexed are inputted to switching equipment. By a voice data decode unit within the switching equipment, for example, the CPS packets a and b are decoded into PCM codes a&prime; and b&prime;, respectively. ATM cells of an ATM type 1 in which the CPS packets a&prime;, b&prime;, y&prime; and z&prime; are multiplexed are generated by a channel switching unit within a network to be suitably inputted to AAL type 1 apparatuses.

The LAN interface unit performs traffic control such as limitation of ATM cells inputted in the ATM switch.

A communication system includes a control unit, a switch and a diversity hand-over processing unit connected to the control unit and the switch for receiving, both a first communication signal received from a radio base station which outputs the hand-over instruction, and a second communication signal which receives it from another radio base station to which the communication signal will be hand-over to output one of the first and second communication signals to the associated interface circuit, and for transmitting the communication signal received through the radio base station from the mobile station on the reception side for communication to both the interface circuit associated with the radio base station as a source of hand-over and the interface circuit associated with the radio base station as a destination of hand-over. Thus, during the hand-over, the diversity hand-over processing unit transmits the communication signal from the mobile station on the reception side for communication to both the radio base station as a source of hand-over and the radio base station as a destination of hand-over so that the communication is established between the mobile station on the transmission side for communication and the mobile station as a destination of hand-over and on the reception side for communication.

An ATM multiplexing apparatus receives a multiplexed signal obtained by multiplexing a plurality of signals, converts each of a plurality of signals to a predetermined ATM cell according to a kind of the signal, then multiplexes these ATM cells, and outputs the multiplexed ATM cells. The ATM multiplexing apparatus includes a discriminator for discriminating each of a plurality of signals on the multiplexed signal, and a cell multiplexing apparatus for converting each of a plurality of signals on the multiplexed signal directly to a predetermined ATM cell on the basis of the output of the discriminator and outputs a stream of multiplexed ATM cells. On the other hand, an ATM demultiplexing apparatus receives a multiplexed stream of ATM cells, converts each ATM cell to a signal, then conducts multiplexing processing on the signals so as to correspond to a signal kind, converts the signals to a multiplexed signal, and outputs the multiplexed signal. The ATM demultiplexing apparatus includes an ATM cell disassembler for taking out each of a plurality of signals and a time stamp, and a signal multiplexer for converting a plurality of signals supplied from the ATM cell disassembler directly to a multiplexed signal on the basis of the time stamp and outputs the multiplexed signal.
