A liquid crystal color display element has striped red, green and blue color filters and comb electrodes corresponding to the respective red, green and blue color filters. At least two of the comb electrodes are connected in parallel and interleaved with an independent electrode composed of the remaining comb electrode.

A multi-shade color liquid crystal display apparatus wherein a number of striped color liquid crystal elements are arranged in parallel in one direction. A color filter for each color liquid crystal element is arbitrarily selected to have one color and the ratios of the widths of the color filters to the pitches of the filters for each of a plurality of blocks of the striped color liquid crystal elements are made different from one another while maintaining one of the widths and pitches constant so that light and dark shades of the color are obtained in different blocks.

Multi-shade color liquid crystal display apparatus

In a segment display type multi-color liquid crystal display device, the area of the display surface of the display device except the areas of segment electrodes is formed so as to present a color identical or similar to a color presented by the segment electrodes in an unselected state. Selected segments can be clearly recognized.

This invention discloses a color liquid crystal display device which can be applied to 7-segment numeric display, for example, A pair of transparent electrodes are disposed on the inner surfaces of a pair of transparent substrates facing each other. One of the transparent electrodes has a function as the display segments and is constituted by two comb tooth-like electrodes that are fixed in a predetermined direction. The direction of teeth of these two comb tooth-like electrodes is in agreement with each other. The other of the transparent electrodes has a flat sheet-like shape. Color filters of two colors are alternately disposed on the two comb tooth-like electrodes in such a manner as to face the other of the transparent electrodes. The direction of disposition of the color filters is in agreement with the direction of the teeth of the comb tooth-like electrodes. The color filters are disposed on the entire surface of the display range including the display segment. A liquid crystal is sealed between the color filters and the other of the transparent electrodes. A voltage is applied across the pair of the transparent electrodes and controls the transmission quantity of the liquid crystal. Thus, segment display can be effected.

Color liquid crystal display device with interdigited segment electrodes

A liquid crystal color display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel having a section with transparent electrodes provided with color filters in striped formation and another section with transparent electrodes provided with no color filters, and separate electrode drive circuits for applying a voltage to the electrodes of the former section and another voltage to the electrodes of the latter section, with the intention of achieving little difference of brightness between both sections. The color filters in striped formation are provided in the entire area including display pattern segments having the arrangment of the transparent electrodes and a background area without transparent electrodes, with the intention of equalizing the visibility of unlighted segments and the background.

Liquid crystal color display apparatus having fixed and variable color

A reflecting plate is disposed in such a manner as to surround a fluorescent tube in a U shape in its axial direction. A light diffusion-transmission plate is disposed in such a manner as to bridge over the open end portions of the U-shaped reflecting plate and to extend in the axial direction of the fluorescent tube. A liquid crystal display element is disposed on this light diffusion-transmission plate. In the liquid crystal display device having the construction described above, the present invention disposes shading means for increasing the quantity of light near the filament portions and limiting the quantity of light on the light emission surface inside the fluorescent tube.

Color filters are provided on electrodes. The color filters and the electrodes are constituted by disposing a single strip electrode and filter in parallel and in the same direction. A glare protection filter is so provided as to be proximate to the front surface of the color filter. The glare protection filter includes minute louvers therein in parallel to each other. The direction of the louvers of the filter is perpendicular to that of the electrodes.

A signal lamp apparatus with a lamp burnout detecting circuit has a right turn signal lamp group and a left turn signal lamp group which are connected to a power source through a turn signal switch and a relay contact coupled in parallel with a burnout detecting resistor. Each of the lamp groups includes a plurality of signal lamps connected in parallel with one another. The apparatus includes a comparator which produces an output signal when the voltage across the signal lamp group is higher than a predetermined voltage, and a device which produces a burnout signal when the comparator has an output signal after lights-out, for example, after 20 to 100 m sec since the relay contact is opened. With such an arrangement, the burnout of the signal lamp or lamps may be detected while the signal light lamp group is flashing.
