A video player and a video-playback control method which are capable of easily performing a selection operation on a display object in a moving image are disclosed. The video player predicts the occurrence of the selection operation of the display object, which is an area for which an action is defined in the moving image, by the start of a move operation of the cursoror the proximity of a hand to a touch panel, and changes the playback state of the title to pause or slow playback. Description information defined for the display object may be automatically displayed. Also, the areas of the display objects may be visualized by displaying figures.

Video player and video playback control method

In a DVD video playback system adapted to transmit data in the form of a PS (program stream) from a source device to each sink device, a navigation manager of the source device stores system parameters, which are necessary for each sink device to decode the PS, in an unused area of a NV_PACK received from a PS demultiplexer and transmits it to a PS multiplexer. The navigation manager of the source device also produces an ORG_PACK in which navigation data necessary for each sink device to decode the PS, and transmits it to the PS multiplexer. The PS multiplexer produces a PS by multiplexing ORG_PACK and NV_PACK received from the navigation manager, V_PACK received from a video transcoder, and A_PACK and SP_PACK received from the PS demultiplexer, and the PS multiplexer transmits the resultant PS to each sink device via an in-vehicle LAN interface.

DVD video playback system and DVD disk playback method

A video reproducing apparatus performs continued reproduction of a video title in association with continued reproduction of applications. When a Power-OFF or Reproduction-Stop of the video reproducing apparatus event occurs at a time point when the video title is reproduced to a midpoint of a chapter, continued reproduction information of an HD DVD disk is identified, such as a title and a chapter being reproduced, and is stored in a memory at that point in time. When the power is turned ON without replacing the HD DVD disk, the application displays a chapter menu of the title, and a script including a command for starting reproduction of the chapter is activated by the application according to an operation of a button of the chapter menu.

Video reproducing apparatus

A disc playback apparatus capable of effectively utilizing an image display function is provided. When an instruction for setting a still image is made, a selection screen creation section performs processes for creating and displaying a predetermined selection screen. The selection screen contains a plurality of reduced still images, so that one of the still images can be selected. When one still image is selected on the selection screen, a still image information setting section associates the selected still image with the track of the audio information to be played back at that time. When the audio information of this track is to be played back at a subsequent playback time, the still image which is associated by the previous process is displayed.

Disc playback apparatus and disc playback method

In a disc playback apparatus for playing back audio signals recorded on a disc medium, a system controller detects a channel format of the audio signals that can be outputted from the playback apparatus. When content is recorded on a disc so as to be played back in a channel format other than the player channel format, it is not played back.

Method and apparatus for disc playback

When a program chain to be played is determined, a system controller calculates the average bit rate in the program chain by dividing the amount of data of the program chain by the total play time of the program chain. The system controller also waits for a navigation pack to be played and calculates the average bit rate in a video object unit in accordance with a play time of the video object unit and the size of the video object unit. When the average bit rate of the program chain is greater than or equal to the average bit rate of the video object unit, frame pause is performed. When the average bit rate of the program chain is less than the average bit rate of the video object unit, field pause is performed.

Video player and video playing method

The system controller sequentially reads the interleaved units (ILVU) corresponding to all the angles to store them in the RAM as the track buffer. When the angle switching is instructed, the system controller reads the ILVU corresponding to the angle after switching, out of the angle block next to the angle block which the ILVU that was read at the moment of the switching instruction from the RAM and is a decoding object belongs to, and controls the reproduction. Further, when the angle switching is instructed, the system controller judges whether it is possible to replace the ILVU before the angle switching stored in the RAM by the ILVU after the angle switching, while maintaining a state of the reproduction image being not intermittent. When it is replaceable, the system controller reads the ILVU after the angle switching from a DVD to store it in the RAM, and thereby replaces the ILVU. Thus, the disk reproduction device achieves a quick angle switching in the multi-angle reproduction operation.
