An automatic analyzer including a sampler for delivering given amounts of samples into reaction vessels arranged along a reaction line, a reagent tray for holding a plurality of reagents, a reagent delivery device for delivering given amounts of reagents into the reaction vessels, and a measuring device for measuring test liquids in the reaction vessels, the reagent tray includes a turn table, a plurality of divided trays detachably provided on the turn table and having a plurality of compartments, and a plurality of reagent containers containing the reagents and being installed into compartments of divided trays. An identification code is provided on respective divided trays for identifying the division information, and a reagent identifying label is provided on a respective reagent container for identifying a respective reagent. The reagent delivery device includes a first detector for detecting said identification code on the divided tray and a second detector for detecting said reagent identification label. In this manner any desired reagent container can be indexed into a reagent sucking position in accordance with the division information, reagent information and a test item to be analyzed. The number and size of the compartments in the divided tray are set such that a plurality of reagent containers having different sizes can be effectively set on the divided tray, and thus a large number of reagent containers having different volumes may be efficiently arranged on the reagent table to perform rapid and adequate analysis and make unnecessary frequent exchange of reagent containers.

An automatic continuous multinominal analyzer comprises suction tubes to be inserted into vessels containing a reagent, each suction tube having a pair of electrode lines. The contacts of each pair of electrode lines are located above the suction port of the suction tube. Hence, the contacts are isolated from each other when the level of the reagent in a vessel is lower than the contacts, even if the reagent still remains in the vessel. If it is detected that the contacts in a vessel are isolated, this indicates that the vessel is almost empty. A display indicates a vessel which is almost empty on the basis of the result of the detection as to whether the contacts in the vessel are isolated. After a vessel is indicated on the display, the controller continues suction of the reagent and an analysis operation until the reagent in the indicated vessel is reduced to the minimum level which can be extracted through the suction tube. After the display indicates a vessel, the operator prepares to exchange the vessel with a new one filled with the reagent before the reagent in the vessel is reduced to the minimum level.

A container for containing a liquid for use in a biochemical analysis includes a cylindrical inner side wall, a bottom wall connected to the inner side wall at its lower end and a cylindrical outer side wall surrounding concentrically the inner side wall and being separated from the inner side wall to form a ring-shaped recess therebetween. Even if the liquid overflows beyond the inner side wall, an outer surface of the outer side wall is kept free from the liquid and the operator's fingers are protected against contamination by the liquid.

A reagent delivery device includes a plurality of delivery syringes, and a plurality of units each having rotary valves by which respective reagent tanks and delivery nozzles are selectively connected with each other and a driving means for driving the rotary valves simultaneously. Further, in the reagent delivery device, the delivery syringes are respectively connected to the rotary valves through the manifold blocks, and a washing liquid is flows through the syringes and manifold blocks. Therefore, if it is necessary to increase the number of reagents to be delivered, such a requirement can be easily dealt with by arranging additional units and manifold blocks without increasing the number of delivery syringes, and contamination between reagents can be eliminated.

A cap and a cap opening and closing device of a liquid container for preventing a liquid evaporation is disclosed. The cap has a plurality of projections made of an elastic material on its bottom surface. The cap opening and closing device which is used in combination with the known cap or the cap mentioned above, having a shutter mechanism connected to the cap for moving the cap in cap opening and closing directions, includes a connecting member for connecting the shutter mechanism with the cap at a position remote from a center of the cap and a contact member for bringing the shutter mechanism into contact with the cap at the center of the cap, when the shutter mechanism is moved in the cap closing direction. Therefore, an easy cap opening and a complete cap closing operation can be effectively performed.
