An electrical connector for electrical connection with a complementary electrical connector comprises an insulating housing (11, 31) having a first recessed portion (12, 32) opening outward. A plurality of electrical contact members (14) are secured in the housing (11, 31) and have contact sections extending along the first recessed portion but spaced inwardly from a front end of the housing (11, 31). A movable guide member has a second recessed portion (15a, 35c) and is positioned in the first recessed portion (12, 32) at an outer position and has holes (15c) in a bottom wall in which ends (14a) of the contact members are positioned. The guide member (15, 35) protects the contact sections of the contact members (14) and receives a section (21a, 41a) of the complementary connector (20, 40) therein when the connectors (10, 20; 30, 40) are connected with the section (21a, 41a) engaging and moving the guide member (15, 35) to an inner position during the connection with the holes (15c) aligning the contact sections for electrical engagement with the complementary contact members (22).

An electrical connector (10) for electrical connection to a complementary electrical connector (20) comprises a housing (10a) having electrical contacts (13) secured in passageways (11) by housing lances (14); a movable contact guide member (40) is positioned in the housing (10a) and includes a guide plate (41) having holes (43) through which ends of contact sections (132) of contacts (13) extend when the contact guide member is an outer position so that holes (43) serve to align and guide the contact sections (132) for electrical engagement with complementary contact sections (231) of electrical contacts (23) secured in housing (20a) when contact guide member (40) moves to an inner position during the engagement between connectors (10, 20); and the movable contact guide member has an inner section (42) that extends along and maintains the housing lances (14) in latching engagement with the contacts (13).

An electrical connector assembly comprises matable male and female housing members including latching members for latching the housing members together. One of the housing members is provided on an outer surface with a flexible latching arm extending in the direction of the other of the housing members and includes a hole near the end that is integral with the housing member. A latching section is provided on an outer surface of the other of the housing members and engages an upper surface of the latching arm when a latching projection of the latching section is latchably disposed in the hole of the latching arm thereby latching the mated housing members together.
