A display device includes: a flexible first substrate; a flexible second substrate provided facing the first substrate; a display part; and a wiring substrate. The display part has a display component which is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The display component produces at least one of an optical characteristic change and a light emission. The wiring substrate is connected to a connection pad provided on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate. At least a portion of the wiring substrate is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate outside the display part.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal/polymer complex includes a liquid crystal material, a polymer, and a chiral agent. The liquid crystal material exhibits blue phase and contains liquid crystal molecules that are spirally arranged to form liquid crystal molecular cylinders having a spiral arrangement. The polymer maintains the arrangement and has a dendrimer-type structure including a dendrimer unit and a polymerizable unit bonded to an end of the dendrimer unit. The dendrimer unit contains a central atom and at least two branched structures bonded to the central atom and has a generation of two or more. The polymerizable unit contains a polymerizable group which can bond to a polymerizable group.

A liquid crystal display device of this invention includes a substrate having a pixel electrode on one major surface, a liquid crystal layer including first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers sequentially stacked on the pixel electrode of the substrate, and a counter electrode formed on the liquid crystal layer. Each of the first and second liquid crystal microcapsule layers contains a plurality of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules each formed by encapsulating a liquid crystal material containing a liquid crystal compound and a dichroic dye with a transparent film. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the first liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a first direction. The major axes of aspherical liquid crystal microcapsules contained in the second liquid crystal microcapsule layer are aligned in a second direction different from the first direction.
