A cover peeling machine includes a pair of rolls. The roll has an almost conical shape. Both of the rolls are rotated in a reverse direction. The direction of the rotation is an inward direction as seen from above. A golf ball is put close to a tip of the roll. In the vicinity of the tip, a distance between a nip of the roll and the golf ball is short. Therefore, a clip portion formed on the golf ball can be easily bitten between the rolls. With the rotation of the roll, a cover is peeled from a core. A groove formed on a surface of the roll can prevent the roll and the cover from slipping. After the removal, the cover and the core are recycled respectively.

A bead locking apparatus includes bead support segments disposed in an annular arrangement at each of the axially opposite ends of a building drum mounted on a rotary shaft, the support segments being movable outward or inward radially of the drum, an elastic ring fitted in an annular recess formed in the outer periphery of the annular arrangement of segments, a segment drive device for moving the bead support segments radially outward, and a device for radially expanding the elastic ring independently of the segments. The bead is first primarily locked by the elastic ring and then secondarily locked by the support segments.

A green tire building process wherein a cylindrical belt (B) comprising a tread (A) and a breaker (3) are applied around a toroidally shaped tire carcass (1) on a tire carcass building drum (13) to assemble a green tire. The breaker cushions (6) are fit to the inner circumferential surfaces of the opposite edge portions of the breaker (3) prior to applying the belt (B) around the tire carcass (1). The breaker cushions are fit to the breaker by first winding the cushions around axial end portions of a belt forming drum in a manner such that the diameter of the radially inner peripheral surfaces of the breaker cushions decrease in diameter towards the axially outer extremities of the drum and the radially outer surfaces of the cushions are generally flat. Then the breaker and tread are wound onto the breaker cushions to form the belt which is later removed from the belt forming drum before being applied onto the tire carcass.

A method and an apparatus for compensating a radial deflection and/or a lateral deflection in tire grooving wherein a cutter movement is controlled by a plurality of operating shafts and a desired pattern grooves are formed in a tire surface, wherein the radial deflection in a direction along diameter of the tire, which is supported by a tire supporting shaft, and/or the lateral deflection in a direction along diameter of the tire are detected before or during tire grooving, an a radially driving member, which moves a cutter in a direction along diameter of the tire, and/or a laterally driving member, which moves a cutter in a direction along width of the tire, are actuated in accordance with a reference program, and concurrently a movement of the radially driving member and/or a movement of the laterally driving member are adjusted in accordance with a correction program based on the detected deflection value in order to follow the radial deflection and/or the lateral deflection. The method and apparatus forms a groove having a desired constant depth and a desired constant width at a desired constant position from the tire tread center and simplifies the structure of the program to allow a smaller size of the apparatus.

An apparatus for grooving a tire which comprises a tire support shaft for rotatably supporting the tire and a support frame having a cutter device mounted thereon. The cutter device and the tire support shaft are movable relative to each other in a transverse direction parallel with the tire support shaft and perpendicular to the tire support shaft. The cutter is supportable at a desired angle with the tread surface, and the cutter blade is rotatable in the direction of the groove to be formed. The cutting position of the cutter is on the axis of an arm support shaft and is controllable by the combination of orthogonal coordinates to simplify the control program for the apparatus. When required, the cutter is swingably attached to a cutter holder to enable the cutter to cut the tire rubber and to be released therefrom with ease without the need to heat the cutter. When the cutter is provided with a heater, the cutter heating temperature and operation speed are so controlled that the temperature of rubber around the cutter is maintained at a predetermined constant level.
