An automatic accompaniment apparatus includes: a storage unit for storing accompaniment style data including basic accompaniment data for automatic accompaniment and replacement accompaniment data to be reproduced in place of the basic accompaniment data; and a reproducing unit for reading the stored accompaniment style data and reproducing the read accompaniment style data, the reproducing unit reproducing the read accompaniment style data by replacing a portion thereof with the replacement accompaniment data. The automatic accompaniment apparatus can generate derivative accompaniment style data from original accompaniment data with ease.

Out of all the notes contained in the selected span, the number of notes that fall on the intrinsic notes of a tonality is counted with respect to each of the tonalities. The tonality which has the greatest count of intrinsic notes is determined to the optimum tonality. When the music composition is transposed, the chord names are altered according to the amount of the transposition. Then, the altered chord names are subjected to adjustment in expression according to the musical grammar. Accidental signs are adequately determined from among enharmonic notations.

While a normal tone of a designated pitch is being generated in response to key depression or other performance operation on a keyboard or other performance operation device, the tone is controlled in response to manipulation of a pedal or other auxiliary performance operator. In an electronic musical apparatus having a generator for generating a tone, a play member is provided for playing a music such that a key-on touch operation and a key-off touch operation are performed on the play member to input a note of the music. A detector detects the key-on touch operation and the key-off touch operation to generate key-on information and key-off information. A controller operates based on the key-on information and the key-off information for controlling the generator to generate a tone corresponding to the note. The detector detects a transitional state of the key-off touch operation for generating a sequence of first key-off information and second key-off information indicative of the transitional state of the key-off touch operation. An electronic musical instrument such as an electronic piano has a musical tone generation structure that closely simulates and reproduces musical tones with nuances of musical expressions with fidelity to acoustic musical instruments such as acoustic pianos. In the casing of the electronic piano, speakers are attached to a speaker attachment plate, which is placed substantially horizontal, such that front sides of the speakers are directed upwards. The sounds radiated from the front sides of the speakers are reflected by a reflector board which is hinged to close or open at a prescribed angle of inclination with respect to a top board, so that reflected sounds are transmitted towards the audience. Enclosures are provided inside of the casing below the speaker attachment plate and contain mufflers having a relatively small thickness therein. Through holes whose openings are directed downwards are formed to penetrate through a bottom plate of the enclosures, wherein the total area of openings of the through holes is larger than the total area of the speakers. Sounds radiated from the backsides of the speakers propagate through the enclosures and are transmitted towards the floor via the through holes, so that reflected sounds are transmitted towards the audience through the air. Further, the electronic piano as a whole vibrates in response to vibrations caused by the speakers. Thus, the electronic piano produces mixed sounds that reproduce acoustic musical tones having the nuances of musical expression of an acoustic piano.

An electronic musical instrument having a rhythm performance function includes a first memory for pre-storing plural rhythm tone kinds, rhythm selecting switches each capable of designating one of said rhythm tone kinds and a rhythm tone generator having plural channels. The selected rhythm tone kind is assigned to each channel of the rhythm tone generator. A rhythm tone corresponding to the selected rhythm tone kind is generated by each channel so that continuous rhythm tones will be generated by plural channels based on time division system. In addition, before playing a rhythm performance, rhythm patterns can be arbitrarily programmed and then stored into a second memory by operating the rhythm selecting switches and other switches corresponding to the predetermined rhythm tones of plural musical instruments. Further, the roll of rhythm tones can be continuously generated, wherein volume information stored in the first memory is determined such that tone volume of the roll of rhythm tones is set smaller than that of the normal rhythm tones.

A bank selector operates when the primary choice is present in the installed timbres for selecting the same so that the musical tone is generated in a desired timbre of the primary choice, and otherwise operates when the primary choice is absent in the installed timbres for selecting the secondary choice in place of the primary choice from the installed timbres so that the musical tone is generated in another desired timbre of the secondary choice.
