The present invention provides a secondary battery which is less expensive, whose safety is extremely high, which is of large capacity as well as good cyclic characteristic, and which uses an aqueous solution for the electrolytic solution. A lithium secondary battery according to the present invention is constituted by including a positive electrode, formed by binding a positive-electrode raw-material mixture including a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode, formed by binding a negative-electrode raw-material mixture including a negative electrode active material, and an electrolytic solution, comprising an aqueous solution in which a lithium salt is dissolved, said positive electrode active material including at least one of a layered structure lithium-manganese composite oxide whose basic composition is LiMnOand an olivine structure lithium-iron composite phosphorus oxide whose basic composition is LiFePO. The present lithium secondary battery can be used in the fields of communication appliances and information-related appliances, and as an electric source for electric automobiles and the like.

Lithium secondary battery

A carbon-containing lithium-iron composite phosphorus oxide for a lithium secondary battery positive electrode active material, includes particles being composed of a lithium-iron composite phosphorus oxide having an olivine structure whose basic composition is LiFePO, and being composited with carbonaceous fine particles. A process for producing the same includes the steps of mixing a lithium compound making a lithium source, an iron compound making an iron source, a phosphorus-containing ammonium salt making a phosphorus source and carbonaceous fine particles, thereby preparing a mixture, and calcicing the mixture at a temperature of from 600&#xb0; C. or more to 750&#xb0; C. or less.

Carbon-containing lithium-iron composite phosphorus oxide for lithium secondary battery positive electrode active material and process for producing the same

A sliding member which ensures a low coefficient of friction and a high degree of wear resistance, and is suitable for use in a bearing, mechanical seal, etc. It comprises a ceramic or metallic base, a diamond film formed on a surface of the base and having a rugged surface defining concavities, and a soft metal filling those concavities. When a relative sliding motion is made between it and a mating part formed from a hard material, only a low coefficient of friction occurs and the abrasive wear of the mating part is greatly reduced. It can maintain its high wear resistance for a long time even when it is used in a dry mode not involving the use of any lubricating oil, coolant, etc., since the diamond film does not undergo any change under heat to graphite having a lower degree of hardness.

Sliding member

A sliding electric part includes a set of two sliding members, wherein one of the sliding members is composed of a diamond substrate with an electric conductive portion formed by ion implanation or by the deposition of boron-doped p-type diamond on the sliding surface which slides along the other sliding member, and the other sliding member has an electric conductive portion formed on the sliding surface which slides along the one sliding member.

Composite material and process for producing the same

Provided herein is a process for producing a composite material composed of a polymer and the layered silicate constituting the clay mineral being connected to the polymer through ionic bonding. The process comprises contacting a layered clay mineral with a swelling agent in the presence of a dispersion medium, thereby forming a complex, mixing said complex containing said dispersion medium with a monomer, and polymerizing said monomer contained in said mixture. The process permits the economical and efficient production of a composite material in which the layered silicate is uniformly dispersed.
