Cystamine is produced by a method which comprises reacting a 2,2-dialkyl thiazolidine represented by the general formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently are alkyl groups of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, with a peroxide in the presence of water. An alkylene oxide adduct of cystamine is produced by a method which comprises reacting the reaction mixture obtained as described above further with an alkylene oxide. These cystamine and alkylene oxide adduct of cystamine are useful as an additive for an aqueous lubricant.

A method for the production of N-(2-chloroethyl) methanesulfonamide of high purity, which method comprises causing methanesulfonyl chloride to react with ethylene imine in the presence of ethylene dichloride and then distilling there resultant reaction mixture thereby separating therefrom N-(2-chloroethyl) methanesulfonamide, if necessary subjecting the resultant reaction mixture to extraction from water, separating the aqueous layer consequently formed, and subjecting the organic layer resulting from said extraction to distillation thereby separating N-(2-chloroetyl) methanesulfonamide.

An aqueous permanent waving composition containing as a reducing agent a quaternary ammoniomercaptan or its salt of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are an alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group, A is an alkylene group, and X is a halogen atom, NO.sub.3, 1/2SO.sub.4, OH or R.sup.4 OSO.sub.3 in which R.sup.4 is an alkyl group, which can be used under an acidic, neutral or alkaline condition and can impart good waves to hairs with a little damage of the hairs and a little foul smell.

A method for the production of a 1,3-thiazolidin-2-one represented by the general formula II: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are independently hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, which method comprises causing a 1,3-thiazolidine represented by the general formula I: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are independently hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group to react with urea.

4-Methyl-5-[(2-aminoethyl)-thiomethyl]-imidazole can be effectively produced by causing 4-methylimidazole or a salt thereof to react with at least one member selected from the group consisting of (a) a formaldehyde adduct of cysteamine, (b) 2-aminoethanethiol sulfuric acid and formaldehyde or a formaldehyde oligomer, and (c) thiazolidine or a salt thereof, in the presence of a mineral acid, removing a portion of reaction liquid out of the reaction system while maintaining molar concentration of 4-methyl-5-[(2-aminoethyl)-thiomethyl]-imidazole in the reaction system not exceeding 70 mol % based on total mol numbers of 4-methylimidazole and 4-methyl-5-[(2-aminoethyl)-thiomethyl]-imidazole, then separating a liquid containing 4-methyl-5-[(2-aminoethyl)-thiomethyl]-imidazole from the removed portion of reaction liquid, and recycling the remainder into the reaction system.

In a method for the production of a dithiodialdehyde represented by the formula II: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently alkyl group of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, by condensation of an active hydrogen-containing aldehyde represented by the formula I: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the same meanings as defined above, with sulfur monochloride, the improvement which comprises simultaneously supplying said active hydrogen-containing aldehyde and sulfur monochloride to an inactive solvent, or adding said active hydrogen-containing aldehyde to a mixture of said inactive solvent with the sulfur monochloride.
