A method of circulating a heat transfer medium through a caterpillar and a plate treating apparatus using the caterpillar. A rotary shaft is arranged to transversely project into the caterpillar arranged in an article conveying direction. The caterpillar is provided with a group of strip shaped hot plates disposed closely in parallel to each other, each hot plate having an inlet and outlet of the heat transfer medium. A heat transfer medium passage is formed in each hot plate to communicate the inlet and the outlet thereof. The rotary shaft includes a heat transfer medium supplying portion and a heat transfer medium discharging portion separately formed therein from one end thereof to the other end. The heat transfer medium is sent from the supplying portion of the rotary shaft to the inlet of each hot plate through a corresponding connecting tube, and then the medium is discharged from the outlet of the hot plate to the discharging portion through another connecting tube. The connecting tubes are long enough to reach turning portions of the caterpillar. The rotary shaft and the caterpillar are synchronously controlled in such a manner that the rotary shaft makes a revolution for a turn of the caterpillar.

This invention discloses a horizontal multistage press which comprises a pair of frames disposed upright in face-to-face relationship with each other, at least one upper lateral beam disposed to connect the upper portions of the abovementioned pair of frames, at least one lower lateral beam disposed to connect the lower portions of the pair of frames, rails disposed on at least either of such pair of upper and lower lateral beams and extending along the length thereof, a multiplicity of hot plates disposed parallel to one another between the pair of frames and supported by the rails for reciprocal movement along the length of such rails, a multiplicity of unprocessed sheets being heat-pressed between the hot plates, at least one urging means disposed on at least one of the frames for urging the multiplicity of hot plates toward and away from one another, and travel members for loading and unloading the unprocessed and processed sheets in and from the gaps between the hot plates, such travel members including at least one engagement members for engaging the lower ends of the unprocessed and processed sheets.

Horizontal multistage press

A horizontal multiplaten press used for pressing sheet materials under heat for making plywood, decorative laminate or veneer. It has a pair of vertically disposed and horizontally spaced apart frames. At least one upper beam and at least one lower beam extend horizontally to connect the frames at their upper and lower ends, respectively. Rails are provided on each beam and extend along its length. Heating platens are vertically disposed between the frames in parallel to one another and are horizontally movably supported on the rails. The platens define therebetween a plurality of spaces in which the sheet materials to be heated and pressed can be vertically disposed. At least one urging device is provided on at least one of the frames for moving the platens to and away from one another. A mechanism is provided on the rails on at least one of the beams for allowing the deformation of each platen in a vertical direction.
