A heat flux sensor to be attached to a hole portion defined in a surface of an object includes a body portion having an outer circumferential face, and an exterior end face that is flush with the surface of the object. The body portion includes a plurality of bored holes extending from an outer face other than the exterior end face of the body portion, with respective tips of the bored holes being arranged on the same normal line of the exterior end face. The heat flux sensor further includes a plurality of heat sensors having wiring lines leading to the outer face of the body portion through the bored holes, and a filling material that fills the bored holes to seal the heat sensors.

Heat flux sensor and method for manufacturing same

An outboard engine is disclosed that includes an idling chamber that communicates with a guiding outlet of a first exhaust path and that is open to the atmosphere. The idling chamber includes a cooling water communicating path that communicates with a cooling water supplying path, and a pressure adjusting valve that opens the cooling water communicating path when the value of the water pressure in the cooling water supplying path reaches a threshold value. When the value of the water pressure in the cooling water supplying path reaches the threshold value, the pressure adjusting valve opens and a portion of cooling water is guided to the idling chamber through the cooling water communicating path.

Outboard engine

An internal oil strainer housed in an outboard motor unit. A lower end of an oil tube is supported by a first seal member constructed of an O-ring fitted into an oil outlet of a strainer case. An upper end of the oil tube is supported by a second seal member constructed of an O-ring fitted into an inlet of an oil channel.

In a pump driving device in an engine, driving a pump shaft of a pump mounted to an engine body by a valve-operating cam shaft supported by the engine body, a bolt is threadedly engaged with one end of the cam shaft, the bolt having a head portion in which a polygonal hole is formed, and a polygonal shaft portion is formed at one end of the pump shaft so as to be fitted into the polygonal hole. The pump shaft is driven by the cam shaft via the polygonal hole and the polygonal shaft portion. Thus, a large driving torque can be transmitted from the cam shaft to the pump shaft without reducing any effective support surface of a journal portion of the cam shaft.

Pump driving device in engine

An outboard engine unit includes a single lubricating oil supply tube for supplying lubricating oil to a valve-operating chain. The valve-operating chain is suspended across a drive sprocket provided to a crankshaft and a driven sprocket provided to a camshaft. A supply tube is connected to a main gallery that is linked to a main oil channel positioned in an area adjacent to the crankshaft.

Outboard engine unit

A water-cooled internal combustion engine has a cylinder headprovided with a cylinder head water jacket Jthrough which cooling water flows. The cylinder head water jacket Jincludes a combustion chamber water jacketsurrounding combustion chambersand an exhaust passage water jacketaround an exhaust manifold passage. The exhaust gas discharged from the combustion chambersthrough exhaust portsflows through the exhaust manifold passage. The exhaust passage water jacketis divided into an upstream water jacketand a downstream water jacketby a partition wall. The cooling water flows from both the upstream water jacketand the downstream water jacketinto the combustion chamber water jacket. Equality in temperature between a combustion chamber wall and an exhaust passage wall is improved and the cylinder headis heated in a uniform temperature distribution.

Water-cooled internal combustion engine

In an outboard engine unit, a cover assembly, defining a lower half section of an engine room, is composed of left and right cover members each formed of resin, and a bracket is fixed to a rear portion of the engine or engine support structure. The left and right cover members are fixed at their respective rear portions to the bracket. Centerline of an engine cylinder is offset from a centerline of the engine room toward one of left and right sides of the unit, and an ignition plug is provided on the other side opposite from the one side toward which the engine cylinder centerline is offset.

A water-cooled internal combustion engine E is provided with a cylinder block water jacket J, a cylinder head water jacket J, and an exhaust manifold passagein which exhaust gas discharged from combustion chambersthrough exhaust portscollects. The exhaust manifold passageis formed only in a cylinder head. The exhaust gas that has collected in the exhaust manifold passageis discharged through an exhaust outlet of the exhaust manifold passagefrom a cylinder headinto an exhaust passageformed in a cylinder block C. The exhaust manifold passageis surrounded by the cylinder head water jacket J, the cylinder block water jacket Jand a discharge water jacketfor carrying cooling water from the cylinder head water jacket Jand the cylinder block water jacket Jto the outside of the engine body. The engine E provided with the exhaust manifold passagedoes not require any assembling work for sealing the exhaust manifold passageand hence the cost of the combustion engine E can be reduced. A wall defining the exhaust manifold passagecan be efficiently cooled by the cooling water that flows through the water jackets.

An outboard engine unit has an intake manifold extending in a front-and-rear direction along one side of an engine block and comprised of a surge tank and a plurality of intake tubes communicating with the surge tank. Each of the intake tubes is arranged so as to be separated in a vertical direction. The shape of the channel cross section of each of the intake tubes is a flat shape in which the dimension in the vertical direction is less than the dimension in a crosswise direction.

An outboard motor S has an exhaust manifold passagefor carrying exhaust gas from combustion chambers. The exhaust manifold passageis formed in a part of a cylinder headin an exhaust-side part of an internal combustion engine E on the side of the cylinder headwith respect to a joint surface P of a cylinder blockjoined to the cylinder head. An exhaust passageis formed in the cylinder blockand connected to the exhaust gas outletof the exhaust manifold passagein the joint surface P. An electrical equipment boxholding electrical equipment is placed in the exhaust-side part so as to overlap the exhaust passagewhen viewed in vertical direction. An electrical equipment boxis disposed adjacent to the cylinder headwith respect to the direction parallel to the axes of cylinders. It is thus possible to increase freedom of arranging parts at positions farther from the cylinder head than the electrical equipment box and freedom of determining the sizes of those parts.

Outboard motor provided with internal combustion engine having electrical equipment box

A multicylinder internal combustion engine has a valve chamber containing a valve train for opening and closing intake valves and exhaust valves, and decompression mechanisms. First, second and third cylinders are arranged in a row parallel to an axial direction parallel to the axis of a camshaft. An exhaust cam for opening and closing the exhaust valve, which is opened and closed by the decompression mechanism, for the second cylinder is not coincident with respect to the axial direction with an abutment end of the exhaust valve with which a rocker arm driven by the exhaust cam comes into contact, and is coincident with respect to the axial direction with the decompression mechanism. Thus, a space for placing the decompression mechanism is secured while suppressing increase in the length of the camshaft and in the longitudinal size of the valve chamber. Consequently, the internal combustion engine can be formed in compact construction. Interference between the pump cam and the decompression mechanism can be avoided and increase in the length of the camshaft can be suppressed by disposing the centrifugal weight of the decompression mechanism for the third cylinder at a specific position on the side of the cam lobe of the pump cam as viewed in the axial direction.

Internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has a valve train and decompression mechanisms disposed in a valve chamber, and a fuel pump attached to a cylinder head. A pump cam for driving the actuating rod of a fuel pump through a swing arm, and a decompression mechanism opposite an end journal relative to the pump cam with respect to an axial direction parallel to the axis of the camshaft are formed on the camshaft in the valve chamber. One of the decompression mechanisms is disposed between the pump cam and an exhaust cam. The swing arm has a contact tip in contact with the pump, cam and a pushing tip in contact with the actuating rod at a position nearer to the exhaust cam than the contact part with respect to the axial direction. The pump cam comes into contact with an end bearing supporting the camshaft to restrain the camshaft from axial movement. The above structure serves to suppress increase in the length of the camshaft in the axial dimension of the valve chamber, and the projection in the axial direction of the fuel pump from the cylinder head , whereby the internal combustion engine can be formed in compact construction.

In a vertical internal combustion engine, comprising; a cylinder block; a cylinder head connected to an end of the cylinder block; a crankshaft extending generally vertically and rotatably supported in the cylinder block; a camshaft extending generally in parallel with the crankshaft and rotatably supported in the cylinder head; and a timing belt for connecting pulleys provided to upper end portions of the crankshaft and the camshaft so as to transmit a driving force from the crankshaft to the camshaft, a plate is attached to a top surface of the cylinder block and at least one idle pulley contacting the timing belt is rotatably supported by the plate.

Vertical internal combustion engine

An outboard motor having an intake silencing box provided above a cylinder block in communication with combustion chambers is provided. The intake silencing box has left and right air induction passages located forwardly of exhaust passages and extending vertically downwardly between the exhaust passages and a skirt of a crankcase in a suspended fashion. The lower ends of the air induction passages open downwardly.

Outboard motor

An air intake muffler has an enclosure having a longitudinal axis, a first portion, and a second portion defining with the first portion an interior space of the enclosure. An air intake connecting duct is formed unitarily with the first portion of the enclosure and extends outwardly from the interior space of the enclosure. A pair of outside air intake ducts for introducting outside air into the interior space of the enclosure diverge in a V-shaped configuration from the longitudinal axis of the enclosure. Each of the outside air intake ducts has a pair of mating concave portions each formed unitarily with a respective one of the first and second portions of the enclosure and extending outwardly from the interior space of the enclosure.
