Video displaying apparatus and video displaying method

A display method of a plasma display device and plasma display device are provided. The display method includes nonlinearly converting first image data corresponding to an input image signal to second image data having a gradation value smaller than a gradation value of first image data and expressing the second image data by a real part and an error part. The display method includes error diffusing of, when the error part of the second image data is not zero, spatially or temporally diffusing the error part. The display method includes subfield pattern converting of selecting a lighting pattern of the subfields based on the error-diffused second image data.

Plasma display device and processing method thereof

A technique capable of suppressing or preventing generation of flickers (blinks) by a sustain period control as well as capable of ensuring or enhancing display quality in a PDP device. The PDP device adjusts a sustain pulse of the sustain period for every subfield by selecting a combination of one or more than one cycle so that start and end timings of a field in fields before and after change are almost the same according to a display load ratio of the subfield of the field. Field weighted emission center positions then becomes almost the same, and flickers and the like are suppressed.

Plasma display device and method of driving the same

There is provided a plasma display device including: a nonlinear conversion circuit which nonlinearly converts a first image signal to a second image signal and expresses the second image signal by a real part and an error part to avoid use of a specific subfield lighting pattern; an error diffusion circuit which, when the error part of the second image signal is not zero, spatially or temporally diffuses the error part; and a subfield pattern conversion circuit which, when a lighting pattern of subfields is selected based on the error-diffused second image signal, selects another subfield lighting pattern without using the specific subfield lighting pattern.

A PDP apparatus, the peak luminance of which has been improved with little modification of the existing circuit structure, has been disclosed, in which a thinning process that shortens an address period by hiding part of display lines in a fixed subfield of a low luminance is performed, the saved time is increased by an amount corresponding to that from which the luminance weight (the number of sustain discharge pulses, that is, the length of the sustain discharge period) of the thinned subfield of a low luminance is subtracted, and the remaining time is allocated at the ratio of the luminance weights on completion of the first step in each subfield.

A plasma display apparatus, in which the display quality of a dark image is improved and which uses a subfield method, has been disclosed. The plasma display apparatus comprises a plasma display panel, a sustain pulse cycle changing means for detecting the display load ratio of each subfield and changing the sustain pulse cycle of each subfield according to the display load ratio, and an adaptive subfield number changing means for calculating a vacant time in a display frame generated by changing the sustain pulse cycle, judging whether a subfield can be added according to the vacant time, and determining the number of subfields in the display frame.

Plasma display apparatus

A display apparatus displaying gray scale by using a subfield method has a gain control circuit, a sub gain control circuit, and an error diffusion circuit. The gain control circuit has the number of gray scale levels of an input signal and outputting a first intermediate image signal with a first number of gray scale levels, and the sub gain control circuit receives the first intermediate image signal, compresses the number of gray scale levels of the first intermediate image signal, and outputs a second intermediate image signal with a second number of gray scale levels. The error diffusion circuit receives the second intermediate image signal and increase the number of gray scale levels by simulating additional gray scale levels through error diffusion.

Display apparatus and display driving method for effectively eliminating the occurrence of a moving image false contour

A display apparatus displaying gray scale by using a subfield method has a main path, a sub path, a switch circuit, a motion region detection circuit, a first judging circuit, a level detection circuit, a motion detection correction circuit, and a second judging circuit. The switch circuit outputs a first image signal generated by the main path or a second image signal generated by the sub path by switching therebetween, and the first judging circuit outputs a first motion signal in accordance with an output of the motion region detection circuit. The motion detection correction circuit receives the first motion signal and a level signal, and outputs a second motion signal in accordance with the level signal, and the second judging circuit receives the second motion signal and the level signal, and outputs a switching control signal to the switch circuit.

A signal processor for multiple gradations for carrying out coding by replacing an input image signal with a plurality of subfields, comprising a main path for generating a primary color signal having a first number of gradations, a sub-path for generating a primary color signal having a second number of gradations, which is smaller than the first number of gradations, a switch, a movement detection circuit, a level detection circuit, a path switching control circuit for switching the switch based on the amount of movement and the level, plural subfield coding circuits for carrying out subfield coding different from each another, a superposing circuit for selecting one of the outputs of the plural subfield coding circuits, and a superposing control circuit, and thus preventing a moving false contour.

A driving method and a PDP apparatus of a dot-matrix type PDP, in which a display of high-luminance and high-quality can be obtained when driven by the interlacing method, have been disclosed. In the driving method to drive, using the interlacing method, a dot matrix type AC plasma display panel comprising display electrodes that are arranged adjacently, extend in the same direction, and execute a light-emitting action in each display cell, and a rib that separates individual display cells, wherein a display line is formed between every pair of the display electrodes, the data in a line of the interlaced signal is displayed simultaneously in two neighboring lines and the centers of display are shifted in the odd field and the even field.

Driving method for a plasma display panel and plasma display apparatus

A display and an image displaying method which ensure gradation expression by a sub field system limits display resolution information in predetermined sub fields, excluding a lower sub field, thereby shortening an address control period. Further, noise dots originated from error diffusion is made less noticeable dot by dot by independently controlling the least significant sub field. This limits the amount of resolution information of a displayed image and improves the general image quality.

Display apparatus and method for displaying gradation levels

A group of high order subfields and a group of low order subfields are provided, at least one independent control subfield is provided in the group of low order subfields and in other low order subfields, two lines are simultaneously addressed using the same data. Hereby, a display and an image displaying method wherein an address control period is reduced, using this surplus time, the luminance is enhanced, multiple gradations are provided or a pseudo contour interference is reduced, the resolution information of a displayed image is limited and synthetic image quality is enhanced are provided.

A PDP apparatus in which degradation in image quality such as display missing points does not occur, even if the peak luminance is increased, has been disclosed. In the PDP apparatus, the display load ratio of each subfield is detected and a sustain pulse cycle is changed according to the display load ratio of each subfield. Moreover, an adaptive sustain pulse number change means is provided, which calculates the total amount of variations in time by summing the variations in time in a display field caused by the changes in the sustain pulse cycles and increases/decreases the number of sustain pulses of each subfield according to the total amount of variations in time.
