An image forming apparatus includes a housing, an image carrying body, an exposure device, a detachable body, and a movement device. The image carrying body installed in the housing carries an image formed on its surface. The exposure device is movable between exposure and retracted positions. The surface of the image carrying body is exposed to light at the exposure position. A distance between an installation position where the image carrying body is installed in the housing and the retracted position is larger than a distance between the installation position and the exposure position. The image carrying body is disposed in the detachable body attachable to and detachable from the housing. The movement device provided in the detachable body causes the exposure device to move from the retracted position side to the exposure position side along with a movement of the detachable body being inserted into the housing.

The present invention provides an image forming apparatus including: a recording medium conveying section; an image forming section, disposed to the recording medium conveying section and relatively moveably supported by the recording medium conveying section at one end side, that forms an image on a recording medium; a side panel that configures a side face portion of the image forming section in a width direction intersecting with the conveying direction, and supports a drive source that drives the image forming section; a support plate, provided between the recording medium conveying section and the image forming section to cover the bottom side of the image forming section, and is supported at a support portion provided at the other end side of the recording medium conveying section; and a resilient member that resiliently supports the support plate and the side panel.

An image forming device that includes a plurality of exposure components and a conductive covering member is provided. Pluralities of light emitting elements are disposed on substrates at the plurality of exposure components. The exposure components expose a plurality of exposure objects, respectively. The conductive covering member includes at least a floor plate that covers the exposure components from below. Wiring is connected to the substrates being disposed along the floor plate. Earthing portions of the substrates are electrically connected to the floor plate. The covering member includes a side plate that covers an axial direction side of the exposure objects and is joined to the floor plate. The earthing portions of the substrates are electrically connected to the side plate via conductive members.

Image forming device

When a process cartridge is installed in a laser printer main body, a projecting rod, which is provided at a toner tank and which projects from a side surface of a housing of the cartridge, enters into a U-shaped positioning portion such that the cartridge is positioned. The projecting rod pushes a lever of a switch downward and turns the switch on. Operation of the printer becomes possible, and power is supplied to a light scanning device. Even if the cartridge, in which the toner tank is not installed, is installed in a laser printer, because the projecting rod does not project out, the process cartridge is not positioned, and the switch remains off. The printer does not operate and power is not supplied to the light scanning device.

An image forming device equipped with a light scanning device having a polygon mirror that deflects laser light by rotating, a focusing element for focusing deflected laser light onto a photosensitive body, and a reflection mirror reflecting and guiding to the photosensitive body the laser light which passes through the focusing element, given that a distance L between an end surface of the focusing element and the reflection mirror is 8 mm&#x2266;L&#x2266;25 mm, and an angle &#x398; formed by incident light and reflected light of the reflection mirror is 25&#xb0;&#x2266;&#x398;&#x2266;45&#xb0;, the focusing element, the reflection mirror, and the photosensitive body are disposed such that a relationship between L and &#x398; satisfies 8 mm &#x2266;Ltan&#x398;&#x2266;12 mm is provided.

In a light beam deflecting device for deflecting a laser beam by using a rotary polygon mirror, the rotary shaft of the rotary polygon mirror is rotatably supported by a plurality of ball bearings which, when turned, vibrate at different frequencies, thus producing no beat sound.
