An X-ray detection unit includes an X-ray detector that receives and detects the X-ray beam transmitted through the head. The support supports the X-ray generation unit and the X-ray detection unit. A drive mechanism moves the support such that the X-ray generation unit and the X-ray detection unit turn about an axis extending in a direction parallel to an apparatus vertical direction and around the head. An X-ray generation source moving unit moves the X-ray generation source in the apparatus vertical direction. The X-ray imaging apparatus increases a spread in the apparatus vertical direction of the X-ray beam when the X-ray generation source is located on an apparatus upper side, and decreases a spread in the apparatus vertical direction of the X-ray beam when the X-ray generation source is located on an apparatus lower side.

An X-ray CT imaging apparatus includes a turning support that supports an X-ray generator and an X-ray detector, a turning drive mechanism including a turning mechanism and a turning axis moving mechanism, an imaging region position setting unit that receives a setting of a position of an imaging region to a local part of a dental arch of a head, and a turning controller. An X-ray CT imaging apparatus includes: a supporter that is supported such that an X-ray generator and an X-ray detector are opposed to each other; a turning motor that turns the supporter about a shaft; a crosswise drive motor that moves the shaft in a crosswise direction; and a circuit that performs processing of controlling the turning motor and the crosswise drive motor and processing of setting the physique of a subject. When X-ray CT imaging is performed, the crosswise drive motor moves the shaft in synchronization with turning of the supporter about the shaft, and the supporter is caused to perform combined motion, which allows the X-ray generator and the X-ray detector to turn about a center of an X-ray CT imaging region, and position control of the shaft is performed according to the size of the physique of the subject.

One of the aspects of the present invention is to provide an X-ray apparatus, which includes an X-ray source radiating an X-ray to a target portion of a person being tested, an X-ray detector detecting the X-ray through the target portion, and a moving mechanism supporting the X-ray source and the X-ray detector so as to oppose to each other. It also includes a driving mechanism driving said moving mechanism so as to keep said X-ray source and said X-ray detector opposing to each other with the target portion intervened therebetween, while the X-ray source radiates the X-ray, and a drive change detector for detecting a drive change of the driving mechanism to determine whether the moving mechanism is applied with an external force preventing motion of the moving mechanism. The driving mechanism is terminated to drive the moving mechanism when the drive change detector detects that the moving mechanism is applied with the external force preventing motion of the moving mechanism.

A planigraphic X-ray apparatus comprising a rotation mechanism for rotating a support member which supports an X-ray generator and an X-ray detection surface to rotate the X-ray generator and the X-ray detection surface around a subject, a position adjustment mechanism for setting the position of the rotation center of the support member rotated by the rotation mechanism and a linear movement means for moving the support member in the direction approximately perpendicular to the direction of the X-ray irradiated from the X-ray generator, whereby the X-ray detection surface is driven in the direction opposite to the movement of the linear movement means and the X-ray generator is rotated toward the X-ray detection surface in synchronization with the movement of the linear movement means. The position adjustment mechanism and the rotation mechanism are used only to set the position and direction of the support member with respect to the subject, and planigraphic photographing is possible only by moving the support member using a linear movement means exclusively provided for the support member, thereby facilitating the positioning operation of the support member with respect to a given planigraphic plane, simplifying the control program and making the entire apparatus compact and inexpensive.

A rotational tomographic X-ray apparatus is disclosed as having an X-ray detection surface disposed parallel to a planigraphic plane selected as a subject to be photographed, and comprising a mechanism for linearly moving the X-ray generator and the X-ray detection surface of the apparatus in relatively opposite directions parallel to the planigraphic plane with the head of a patient positioned therebetween, and for controlling the irradiation direction of X-rays so that the irradiated X-rays always pass the same specific region in the planigraphic plane and are incident on the X-ray detection surface in synchronization with the linear movement. With this apparatus, clear planigraphic photographing with no distortion is possible and the magnifying ratios of X-ray images can be changed easily.
