A two stage-ignition air bag apparatus for a vehicle of the present invention includes an air bag, a first inflator ignited when a value according to collision severity has reached a first threshold value in order to inflate the air bag, and a second inflator ignited at earlier one of times when the value according to collision severity has substantially reached a second threshold value that is greater than the first threshold value and when a predetermined time has passed since the value according to collision severity reached the first threshold value in order to inflate the air bag. Also, a method of igniting the two stage-ignition air bag apparatus of the present invention includes the steps of igniting the first inflator when a value according to collision severity has reached a first threshold value, and igniting the second inflator at earlier one of times when the value according to collision severity has substantially reached a second threshold value that is greater than the first threshold value and when a predetermined time has passed since the value according to collision severity reached the first threshold value.

Two stage-ignition air bag system for vehicle and igniting method thereof

A seat pressure sensor unit of the present invention is provided at a portion receiving a pressure of a seat. The sensor unit comprises a sensor provided on a top face of a base cloth and a heater wire provided on the top face of the base cloth not so as to overlap the sensor.

A safety system includes a seatbelt apparatus for supporting a shoulder of a vehicle occupant, an airbag apparatus having an airbag body, and control means for controlling a sealing member. The airbag body is inflated to receive the occupant by gas introduced into the airbag body. The airbag body has first and second ports for exhausting the gas. The sealing member is disposed on the second exhaust port. The sealing member is set to either one of a first state where the gas is prevented from being exhausted from the second exhaust port and a second state where the gas is allowed to be exhausted. The sealing member is ordinarily set to the first state. The seatbelt apparatus outputs a seatbelt apparatus application signal to the control means when the seatbelt apparatus is applied to the occupant. The control means set the sealing means to the second state when the control means receives the seatbelt apparatus application signal.

Safety system for automobile

An air bag apparatus for a vehicle has a longitudinal pad, a longitudinal metal cover, and an air bag that is folded-up. The pad is fixed within a roof rail, and has a cross-section that is substantially the shape of a hat that protrudes into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The cover is disposed beneath the pad on the inner surface of the roof rail, has an upper end that is fixed to the uppermost surface of the pad, a lower end that is in proximity to the roof rail, and a substantially L-shaped cross-section. The air bag is housed between the roof rail and the cover and, when the vehicle experiences a collision, pushes outward between the lower end of the cover and the roof rail, so as to form an aperture therebetween, from which the air bag deploys downward.

Air bag apparatus for a vehicle

A metal case consists of a inner case and an outer case, the inner case and the outer case have respective rear surface portions which are mutually separated but overlapped on a back side of the metal case, an inflator has fitting bolts which penetrate the rear surface portions of the inner case, the inflator secured to the rear surface portion of the inner case by fitting bolts and nuts, and top ends of the fitting bolts are covered with the rear surface portion of the outer case. Accordingly, even when a passenger pushes or touches a seat back above the fitting bolts, he or she feels smooth or pleasant to the touch.

In order to reinforce the opening of an air bag container against excessive deformation, laterally extending ribs of beads are formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the container. Vertically extending connection flanges which are arranged on the inboard edges of the container are arranged to be merged and/or rigidly connected with the ribs. Openings in the flanges through which bolts are disposed are arranged proximate the ribs.

A knee protective panel of a vehicle, extending laterally of the vehicle in front of a driver's seat under an instrument panel and having a U-shaped cut receiving a steering column is provided with a reinforcing member fixed to the protective panel so that there is formed between the protective panel and reinforcing member an enclosed space extending laterally immediately under the U-shaped cut. In one embodiment of the invention, an opening is formed in an outboard half of the reinforcing member lying on the outboard side of the steering column so that the rigidity of the outboard half is made lower than that of the inboard half. In another embodiment, the protective panel is joined with the instrument panel through at least one intermediate bracket which is fastened with the upper end of the protective panel by bolts extending substantially vertically and which is connected with a laterally extending steering member through at least one support bracket extending forwardly and transmitting impact due to collision from the protective panel to the steering member.
