A mobile radio apparatus using a circuit board in a cabinet as an antenna and being capable of providing a good antenna characteristic when the mobile radio apparatus is closed for entering a portable mode is provided. In a mobile radio apparatus, an upper circuit board is housed in an upper cabinet, a lower circuit board is housed in a lower cabinet, the upper and lower circuit boards and are electrically connected, an antenna section is housed in an upper part of the lower cabinet, a feeding section for supplying power to the antenna section is housed in the lower cabinet, and in a portable mode with the upper cabinet and the lower cabinet stacked on each other, the feeding section is connected to the antenna section and in a conversation mode in which the joint whole length is grown as the upper cabinet and the lower cabinet are changed in the mutual position, the feeding section is connected to the upper circuit board through the antenna section and a connection member.

Mobile radio apparatus with enhanced antenna characteristics

Herein disclosed is a portable wireless device, comprising: a first casehaving a metal portion; a second case; a hinge portionoperative to rotatably connect the first case with the second case; a circuit boardhaving a ground pattern, the circuit board accommodated in the second case; and a feed portion connected to the circuit board, the hinge portionhaving a rotating shaftformed by a conductive metal, and the first case, the rotating shaftand the ground pattern collectively function as an antenna element, wherein the portable wireless device further comprises a first conductor elementaccommodated in the first casein spaced-apart relationship with the rotating shaftwith a predetermined gap, the first conductor element having an electrical length substantially equal to a half wavelength of a wireless frequency.

In a portable radio device in which both an antenna for cell phone and an antenna for receiving GPS data are installed, an object of the present invention is to decrease influence of the antennas on one another with respect to deterioration of their radio performances. According to the present invention, in a portable radio device in which an operating part housing () and a display part housing () are connected by way of a hinge part () in a freely foldable manner to conduct both telephone conversation and reception of GPS data, an antenna () for the telephone conversation is provided at one side of the operating part housing () in a lateral direction, and at the same time, an antenna () for receiving the GPS data is mounted to a base board () in the display part housing () in its end area at an opposite side to the hinge part (). With this arrangement, both the antennas (), () can be spaced from each other, and deterioration of their radio performances can be restrained.
