An electro-optical device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a color filter disposed in a layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. An adhesive is disposed in a layer between the color filter and the second substrate. A first overcoat layer is disposed in a layer between the adhesive and the color filter, and a second overcoat layer is disposed in the layer between the adhesive and the color filter and is disposed along the first overcoat layer.

The color filter is provided with any one of a red color filter, a green color filter, and a blue color filter. An organic EL device as a light emitting device includes: a first light emitting element that is disposed on a first surface of a substrate and that has a first pixel electrode; a second light emitting element that has a second pixel electrode; and an insulating layer that is provided with a first opening which exposes the first pixel electrode and a second opening which exposes the second pixel electrode. Further, in the organic EL device, the first opening is configured so that the insulating layer covers equal to or more than 50% of the circumferential edge portion of the first pixel electrode, and the second opening is configured so that the insulating layer covers less than 50% of the circumferential edge portion of the second pixel electrode.

An electro-optic device includes a light-emitting element disposed above a substrate, an optically transparent sealing film covering the light-emitting element, and a color filter disposed on the sealing film so as to adjoin the sealing film. The thin portion and the thick portion form a recess in the sealing film. The color filter fills the recess.

An organic EL device includes a substrate; a color filter layer that is formed above the substrate; a first electrode that is formed between the substrate and the color filter layer; a second electrode that is formed to face the first electrode; and an organic light-emitting layer that is formed between the first and second electrodes. The color filter layer includes first and second sub-filter layers that are formed in a region overlapping the first electrode, when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the substrate, and transmit a first color. The first and second sub-filter layers are formed of the same material and the first and second sub-filter layers are laminated.
