A method for storing status information prior to shutdown of a video monitor due to a failure. An indication of an operational parameter is obtained. Based on the indication, it is determined if the failure occurs warranting shutdown. If the failure occurs, status information is stored in a non-volatile memory for later retrieval during repair. A shutdown sequence is generated to disable the video monitor.

The present invention relates a method and system for providing aging of a cathode ray tube. The system comprises a video processing circuit that is configured to generate a first luminance signal and a second luminance signal. The system also comprises an electron gun located in the cathode ray tube, that is coupled to the video processing circuit. The electron gun is configured to operate at a first luminance level corresponding to the first luminance signal for a first predetermined period of time, and a second luminance level corresponding to the second luminance signal for a second predetermined period of time.

A method and apparatus for centering an active video signal on a display screen is described. In one embodiment, the method includes calculating an initial positioning value, which corresponds to an initial position of the active video signal on the display screen. A target positioning value is then determined using linear interpolation. The target positioning value is a rough estimate and provides a big pre-jump of the active video signal from the initial position to a target position, which positions the active video signal near the center of the display screen. A bi-sectional fine tuning technique may then be utilized to center the active video signal on the display screen. This method may be performed using a feedback loop that comprises a microcontroller, a digital signal processor, and an on-screen display circuit.

The present invention relates to a multi-frequency display system and method for providing color convergence. The system comprises a convergence circuit that is configured to receive a first set and a second set of color input signals. The first of color input signals operates at a first frequency, and the second set of color input signals operates at a second frequency. The system also comprises a controller circuit coupled to the convergence circuit, that is configured to generate a first convergence signal corresponding to the first frequency and a second convergence signal corresponding to the second frequency. The convergence circuit generates a first control signal in response to the first set of color input signals and the first convergence signal. The convergence circuit generates a second control signal based on the second set of color input signals and the second convergence signal. A set of electron guns coupled to the convergence circuit are configured to generate beams that are adjusted to provide color convergence at said first frequency and at said second frequency.

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for providing error detection capability for initialization data stored in a non-volatile memory used in a video monitor. The method comprises the steps of: (1) storing N test values in N distinct locations in the non-volatile memory; (2) reading the N stored test values from the non-volatile memory, each test value being read for K times; (3) selecting N read test values representative of the N stored test values; (4) comparing the N read test values with N corresponding check values; and (5) if the N read test values are equal to the N corresponding check values, reading the initialization data from the non-volatile memory.
