An image forming apparatus, having a sheet ejection section, provided in an upper portion of the image forming apparatus, for ejecting a recording sheet onto an upper surface portion of the image forming apparatus; a sheet post-processing apparatus for receiving the recording sheet, ejected from the sheet ejection section, so as to perform a post-processing operation upon the recording sheet; and a coupler for coupling the sheet post-processing apparatus with the image forming apparatus so that at least a part of the post-processing apparatus is located on the upper surface portion of the image forming apparatus.

The invention concerns a hole-punching processor that forms punched-holes, for binding sheets into a file, on the sheets, which are ejected after images are formed on them from an image forming apparatus such as, for example, a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile machine or a compound machine thereof. The hole-punching processor forms a punched-hole on a sheet residing in a conveying path for conveying the sheet through the hole-punching processor. The hole-punching processor includes a hole-punching device being movable in a direction perpendicular to a conveyance direction of the sheet and a sheet-edge detector to detect a side-edge of the sheet in a direction parallel to the conveyance direction of the sheet. The hole-punching device moves with the sheet-edge detector to a center of the sheet, based on positional information of the side-edge detected by the sheet-edge detector, to punch a hole in the sheet.

A document reading apparatus and method are provided for outputting an image faithful to a document as possible even if the document is accidentally fed in an oblique fashion on the way of a sheet feeding path. For this purpose, a plurality of document end detecting sensors Sto Sare disposed on the way of the sheet feeding path, and further, a reading controllercalculates a skew quantity &#x3b8; of the document with respect to the sheet feeding pathbased on a signal output from the document end detecting sensor, thereby adjusting a document reading timing in accordance with the skew quantity.

A sheet folding apparatus having a Z-folding function which incluses a sheet conveyance device for conveying a paper sheet having an image formed thereon and a stopping member capable of moving for adjusting the position thereof provided in a conveyance path in order to stop a paper sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyance device at the leading edge colliding against the stopping member, and forms a fold by introducing the buckle portion of the paper sheet formed by the stopping member between a roller pair composed of two folding rollers and gripping by the rollers. A document feeding apparatus includes a paper feeding tray, on which a document is placed, a transfer unit that transfers the document placed on the paper feeding tray to a platen glass, a paper delivery tray for receiving the document transferred to the platen glass, and a platen cover for the platen glass. A first paper delivery port is provided for delivering to a short size tray a document whose length in the transfer direction of the document is shorter than a predetermined value, and a second paper delivery port is provided for delivering to said paper delivery tray a document whose length in the transfer direction of the document is longer than the predetermined value. In addition, an image input portion, the second paper delivery port, and the first paper delivery port are arranged in order with a space therebetween in the transfer direction of the document.

Document feeding apparatus

An automatic document conveyance apparatus includes: a document feeding section on which a plurality of documents can be placed, for feeding documents one by one therefrom; a zigzag reversal path through which the document fed from the document feeding section is reversed with respect to front and back sides of each of the documents; a reading position forming device for forming an image reading position of the document fed zigzag from and conveyed to the zigzag reversal path; and a document ejection tray on which the document passed through the reading position forming device and ejected through an ejection path is placed. The document fed from the document feeding section is conveyed to the zigzag reversal path at which the document is reversed, the document is fed zigzag to the reading position at which one side of the document is read, the document is conveyed again to the zigzag reversal path at which the document is reversed again, the document is fed zigzag again from the zigzag reversal path to the reading position at which the other side of the document is read, and then the document is ejected from the reading position to the document ejection tray.

In an sheet finishing apparatus for receiving a sheet on which an image has been formed by an image forming apparatus, and for ejecting the sheet after a front side thereof is reversed, the sheet finishing apparatus includes: a sheet conveyor for conveying the sheet fed from the image forming apparatus downstream; a sheet reversing device for receiving the sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyor, and for reversing the front side of the sheet by rotation; a sheet holder provided on a peripheral portion of the sheet reversing device for holding a leading edge portion of the sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyor, the sheet holder capable of being opened or closed; a sheet stopper for blocking the leading edge portion of the sheet to be stopped at a position where the front side of the sheet is reversed by a rotation of the sheet reversing device; and a sheet stacking member for stacking the sheet separated from the sheet reversing device by a further rotation of the reversing device after the leading edge of the sheet is blocked by the sheet stopper.

Sheet finishing apparatus

In a sheet finisher for use with an image forming apparatus, for receiving and aligning sheets discharged from the image forming apparatus, for then stapling the sheets together and for ejecting the stapled sheets to an exit tray, the sheet finisher includes: an intermediate stacker for receiving, aligning and stapling sheets discharged from the image forming apparatus; a conveyor for superimposing a first sheet and a second sheet in a sheet conveyance path upstream of the intermediate stacker, and then for conveying the superimposed sheets to the intermediate stacker to form a succeeding set of sheets to be stapled which follows a preceding set of sheets to be stapled in the intermediate stacker; a driver for driving the conveyor; and a controller for controlling the driver with respect to an operation timing of the driver.

Sheet finisher

A copying machine is equipped with an automatic document feeder, which separates documents in a document storing section and feeds them one by one onto a platen glass. The documents are stopped at an exposure position by a document conveyance stopper, where they are exposed and scanned by an exposure scanning device, and then delivered to a document delivery tray. A sensor is provided in a feeding path of the document feeder, for detecting a leading edge or a trailing edge of the document. A delaying device for delaying a drive source stopping signal of the document conveyance stopper is outputted after a predetermined period of time has passed, or after a predetermined number of pulses have been counted after the document leading or trailing edge signal outputted from the sensor has been received. A detection device detects the documents actual stopping position and a signal is output after the drive source stopping signal of the document conveyance stopper has been generated. A controller controls the generation of a signal for the recording sheet conveyance operation. The start signal occurs at a time which corresponds to the driving of the exposure scanning device, as adjusted based on a detection at the actual document stopping position by the detection device. The document stopping position is at the location on the platen where the motor drives and transports the original plus the distance that the sheet is carried by inertia.

A sorter, which sorts sheets transferred from an image forming apparatus to form a plurality of sheet stacks and staples each sheet stacks, is disclosed herewith. The sorter is provided with a plurality of bins arrayed in an upright direction for stacking the sorted sheets, and is provided also with a stapler to staple each sheet stack. The bin is adapted to swing horizontally between a first angular position to stack the sorted sheets and a second angular position to undergo the stapling of the sheet stack by the stapler. The stapler is adapted to move along the upright direction through a plurality of stapling positions, and staples each sheet set at each stapling position.
