The present invention provides a gas-permeable hollow fiber membrane having an inner diameter of 50 to 500 &#x3bc;m and a membrane thickness of 10 to 150 &#x3bc;m, which is preferably a composite hollow fiber membrane having a three-layer structure consisting of a nonporous layer having porous layers disposed on both sides thereof. Dissolved gases present in an ink can be removed by passing the ink through the bores of hollow fibers comprising such a hollow fiber membrane, and evacuating the outer surface side of the hollow fibers. This method makes it possible not only to degas inks with a slight pressure loss, but also to degas inks stably even if pressure changes occur during degassing.

A hollow fiber membrane module includes, as potting material , an epoxy resin cured product in which the weight change per unit surface area of a potting material test piece after immersing the test piece in a chemical for 6 months at room temperature is within the range of &minus;20 to &plus;20 mg/cm , and as housing , a polyolefin in which the weight change per unit surface area of a test piece after immersing the test piece in a chemical for 6 months at room temperature is within the range of &minus;20 to &plus;20 mg/cm , and the total metal content is 300 ppm or less. Disclosed is a composite hollow fiber membrane having a composite structure consisting of a homogeneous thin film interposed between porous substrate layers wherein the ratio of the oxygen permeation flux to the nitrogen permeation flux of the membrane is not less than 1.1 and wherein, after the membrane has been immersed in chemical liquids according to JIS K 7114, the percentage change of the ratio is within &ntilde;10%. Disclosed are shaped articles having a coating layer formed on surface region, wherein the surface region is formed of a polymer derived from a multifunctional acrylic monomer and having 0.02 to 0.2 .mu.mol/cm.sup.2 of acidic groups therein, by curing a coating composition consisting essentially of a specific silica polycondensate. The silica polycondensate is obtained by mixing (I) colloidal silica and (II) a specific silicon compound in such a molar ratio that the average number of hydrolyzable groups is within the range of 2.30 to 3.85, and then subjecting them to cohydrolysis and polycondensation. In these shaped articles, the coating layer have excellent properties such as hardness and abrasion resistance, as well as good adhesion.
