A disc changer comprises a receiving unit for receiving a plurality of discs, a base unit, a playback unit and a transfer unit for transferring one of the plurality of discs to the playback unit. The transfer unit is movable in the perpendicular direction to the base unit. The playback unit has on its opposite ends swing support axes. The playback unit is swingable around the swing support axes relative to the base unit and the transfer unit, respectively. The playback unit has a gear. The base unit has a base unit-gear segment portion and the transfer unit has a transfer unit-gear segment portion. The gear is held between the base unit-gear segment portion and the transfer unit-gear segment portion so as to engage with these gear segment portions.

Disc changer

A disk player has a disk cartridge for being loaded thereon, and accommodating a disk-type recording medium. The disk cartridge has a shutter arranged thereon, for performing slide-opening/closing in order to expose an information surface of the disk-type recording medium. The disk player includes a carrier mechanism for carrying the disk cartridge to an information regenerating location and an information recording location, and a shutter sliding mechanism for slide-opening/closing the shutter. The shutter assumes an intermediate position of sliding when the disk cartridge is located at one of the information regenerating location and. the information recording location, and assumes a terminal position of sliding when the shutter is located at the other one of the locations. The disk player also includes a driving mechanism including an engaging element and an engaged element which is separated from the engaging element when the information recording mechanism is not driven.

An apparatus for transferring a movable body comprises a rack having flexibility, a pinion for driving the rack and a guide device for guiding the rack. The guide device has a curved portion. The pinion may locate along the curved portion of the guide device. The movable body comprises a disc.

A disk player has a structure capable of mounting on a turntable a disc-shaped recording medium contained within a cartridge. Such disc player comprises a cartridge transporting system capable of transporting the cartridge in a direction generally parallel to a sliding direction of a shutter of the cartridge; and a pivotable chassis on which the turntable is mounted, said chassis being pivotable by a chassis driving system so as to enable said disc-shaped recording medium to be mounted on the turntable, with its pivoting axis being generally parallel to a transporting direction for transporting the cartridge.

Disc player having an improved disc cartridge loading system

A positioning system is provided for use in an information recording/reproducing apparatus for positioning a cartridge containing an information recording medium on a chassis mounting information recording and reproducing structure. Such positioning system comprises positioning holes formed on the cartridge containing an information recording medium; and positioning pins formed on the chassis mounting information recording and reading structure. In particular, when a cartridge containing an information recording medium is inserted into the recording/reproducing apparatus, one of the positioning pins is caused to insert into a corresponding positioning hole earlier than the insertion of other pin(s) into other corresponding positioning hole(s).

A structure for supporting a rotating body has a cylindrical rotating member having a flange perpendicular to an axis and a cylindrical portion, and a fixed shaft for rotatably supporting the rotating member. The flange has a hole, and the shaft has at least one hook projecting from the hole for restricting an axial movement of the rotating member.

A disc player has a cartridge holder formed with an opening for loading a disc cartridge containing an optical disc through the opening. The disc cartridge has a slidingly opening shutter to expose an information recording surface of the optical disc contained in the cartridge, so as to permit information recording or reproducing. The disc player includes a disc cartridge loading system for transporting the disc cartridge in the same direction that the shutter moves on the disc cartridge. The disc player also includes a guide plate provided on the inner side of the opening within the disc player for guiding the disc cartridge when the disc cartridge is being transported into or out from the disc player through the opening. In particular, the guide plate has an inclined edge portion formed into a slope gradually inclined in an insertion and removal direction of the disc cartridge.

A plurality of rotary circular racks are vertically disposed. Each of the racks has a plurality of radial slits, for storing recording mediums, and a radially formed recess without the slits. The recesses of all racks are located at the same circumferential position. A disc player is provided to be vertically moved passing through the recess for reproducing a disc removed from one of the slits. An encoder comprising a plurality of slits are circumferentially provided on each of the racks, and a sensor is provided for detecting an angular position of each of the slits, whereby an angular position of all of the racks is determined in order to reproduce a selected disc stored in one of the racks.
