Any of the factors at the other signal levels is obtained by performing an interpolating operation using the basic factors in the basic factor table. The value of the signal level of a video signal referred to when the correction factor in the overlapping direction is obtained is changed by using a shift factor associated with the pixel position in the direction orthogonal to the overlapping direction. The basic factor is thereby changed according to the pixel position in the orthogonal direction.

A cathode ray tube and a color selecting member, which can be manufactured without defects by using an existing projection aligner of a simple structure and can always produce a picture of high quality, in which phosphor layer has a pattern in stripes in the lateral direction of a screen, or in the horizontal direction and a color selecting member has slits elongated in the longitudinal direction of the screen, or in the horizontal scan line direction. Even in case of the thermal expansion of the color selecting member or a considerable longitudinal deviation between the exposure position at the time of manufacture and the position where an electron beam strikes in actual use, an electron beam can freely pass through the slits. Therefore, the accuracy of irradiation of the phosphor layer with the electron beam is not adversely influenced.

A control portion detects a level of video signals for each color when video signals are inputted from a frame memory to DSP circuits. Next, the control portion calculates an appropriate correction coefficient of each color to be used in modulation control of brightness, for every unit pixel or unit pixel array among a plurality of correction coefficients stored in its own memory in advance based on the detected signal level. The control portion instructs the DSP circuits to perform modulation of brightness by using the determined correction coefficient.

In a cathode ray tube in which electron beams emitted from neighboring electron guns cross each other before passing through a plurality of apertures of a color selecting member and has an area through which both of the electron beams pass. A damper line is provided in the area through which both of the electron beams pass. Since one of the electron beam falls on a shadow cast by the other electron beam, the shadow becomes lighter.

An image display correcting apparatus of the invention comprises, broadly, a correction data forming apparatus and an image display apparatus. Correction data for correcting a display state of an image is formed by the correction data forming apparatus on the basis of an image as a reference displayed on the screen of a CRT. Further, on the basis of the correction data, an operation of correcting image data is executed so that an image is accurately displayed on the image display apparatus. The corrected image data is outputted to the CRT. Thus, a defective display state such as image distortion, misconvergence, or the like can be corrected at low cost and a high quality image can be displayed.

An image control device and method, and image display device, capable of producing an image of high quality by joining a plurality of divided frames with the joint areas made inconspicuous. An index electrode is provided in an over-scan region on the side of the joint area of the right and left divided frames. The index electrode outputs a detection signal in response to an electron beam scanning in the over-scan region. Based on the detection signal, obtained is data on a pixel position in the joint area of the divided frames. Further, based on the data on the pixel position thus obtained, estimated is data on a pixel position in an area other than the joint area of the divided frames. Meanwhile, using data obtained based on the detection signal outputted from the index electrode, control of image data is exerted so that the left and right divided frames are joined properly.

With the cathode ray tube and image correcting method of the invention, inside the cathode ray tube, an index electrode for outputting an electric detection signal according to an incidence of electron beams is provided in an over-scan region of the electron beams on the side of the joint of neighboring left and right divided screens. Based on a detection signal outputted from the index electrode, image display control is performed so that the left and right divided screens are joined in an appropriate positional relationship. Also, based on the detection signal outputted from the index electrode, brilliance modulation control at the joint area of the left and right divided screens is performed and thus image display control is performed so that changes in brilliance at the joint area remains inconspicuous.
