Provided is an emphasis circuit capable of obtaining a desired emphasis amount with which waveform deterioration of an output signal in a high frequency band (high frequency band deterioration) is suppressed without increasing power consumption (current consumption). In the emphasis circuit, a baseband amplifier section and a peaking amplifier section are connected in parallel to each other, and respective drive current setting sections are adjusted to adjust respective drive current values thereof so that the sum of the drive current value of the baseband amplifier section and the drive current value of the peaking amplifier section may be constant.

Emphasis circuit

A burst-mode receiver for receiving burst optical signals having different intensities by a reversely connected APD, including: a current detection circuit outputting a photocurrent that is generated by APD and is output from a current mirror circuit (CMC) as a voltage proportional to the photocurrent, the CMC being connected in series between a power supply and APD; a peak detector circuit detecting and holding a peak value of the output voltage of the current detection circuit; a resistor connection switching circuit, which is inserted between the CMC and APD, for connecting a series resistor to APD in series by switching; and a comparator outputting a switching signal for switching the resistor connection switching circuit so that the series resistor is connected to APD in series in a case where a voltage detected by the peak detector circuit is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold.

Burst-mode receiver, and method of bias voltage control for APD of burst-mode receiver

A current bypass circuit that passes part of a photocurrent output from a photodetector is connected to an input terminal of a current-to-voltage conversion amplifier circuit. A voltage obtained by level conversion of an output voltage by a voltage level conversion circuit is input into the current bypass circuit so that the current bypass circuit is turned on at a photocurrent that is smaller than the photocurrent at which a diode connected in parallel to a feedback resistor of the current-to-voltage conversion amplifier circuit is turned on. Consequently, the current-to-voltage conversion gain is switched in three stages according to the intensity of the photocurrent corresponding to an optical signal level.

Preamplifier, optical receiver, optical termination device, and optical communication system

An optical receiver includes a light receiving element configured to convert an input light signal into an electric current, a current mirror circuit including a reference current side transistor and a mirror current side transistor, the transistor being connected to the light receiving element, a current-voltage conversion circuit configured to convert an output current from the transistor into a voltage and output the voltage as a light reception level monitor voltage of the light receiving element, and a current sink circuit connected to the transistor and configured to feed an electric current to the transistor.

Optical receiver, station-side optical network unit, and light reception level monitoring method

An optical receiver including: a preamplifier capable of changing a conversion gain in accordance with a reception level of a received burst signal; a gain control circuit capable of switching between a fast time constant and a slow time constant; and a convergence determination circuit for outputting a time constant switching signal in accordance with a state of the gain control circuit (transient state or steady state) and a reset signal between the burst signals. This configuration can switch the time constant of the gain control circuit at an appropriate timing.

Optical receiver

A laser diode drive circuit includes a laser diode (LD), a modulation-current differential drive circuit, a bias-current differential drive circuit, a first inductance connected between an anode of the LD and a positive power source, a second inductance connected between a cathode of the LD and a negative-phase output terminal of the bias-current differential drive circuit, a first resistor connected to a connection point of the anode of the LD and the first inductance and connected to a negative-phase output terminal of the modulation-current differential drive circuit, and a second resistor connected to a connection point of the cathode of the LD and the second inductance and connected to a positive-phase output terminal of the modulation-current differential drive circuit, and a positive-phase output terminal of the bias-current differential drive circuit is connected to the connection point.

Laser diode driver circuit

Provided is a point-to-multipoint optical communication system capable of extending a transmission distance between a subscriber apparatus and a station apparatus without changing wavelengths of an upstream optical signal and a downstream optical signal, which are used in both of the apparatuses. The point-to-multipoint optical communication system includes, as a basic configuration thereof, an optical network for connecting one station apparatus () to a plurality of (n) subscriber apparatuses (). Among m basic configurations, one station-side wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer (), one optical fiber transmission line (), and one subscriber-side wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer () are shared. The point-to-multipoint optical communication system further includes a station-side repeating unit () and a subscriber-side repeating unit () each including the one wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer (or) and m wavelength converters (or). An optical signal having a conventionally-used wavelength is used between the station apparatus () and the station-side repeating unit () and between the subscriber apparatus () and the subscriber-side repeating unit (), and an extensible optical signal, on which wavelength division multiplexing has been performed, is used between the wavelength multiplexers/demultiplexers (and) via the optical fiber transmission line ().

Point-to-multipoint optical communication system

An optical transmitter includes a light-emitting device and an optical modulator that modulates light output from the light-emitting device by using an input signal. The optical transmitter includes a drive current switching controller that performs an ON/OFF switching control of a drive current of the light-emitting device, by using an ON/OFF signal as an input that controls ON/OFF of an optical output of the light-emitting device, in response to a switching of the ON/OFF signal. The optical transmitter also includes a drive current adjusting and generating unit that detects an ambient temperature, and generates a drive current that is adjusted according to the ambient temperature detected thereby. The drive current switching controller includes a differential circuit that is supplied a drive current that is generated by the drive current adjusting and generating unit and controls the drive current that is output to the light-emitting device, according to the ON/OFF signal.

Optical transmitter

An optical receiver of wide-dynamic range characteristic that stably reproduces a burst signal having different light receiving levels. A preamplifier converts an output from a light receiving element into a voltage signal. A level detecting circuit includes: a first level detecting unit having a shorter time constant; and a second level detecting unit having a longer time constant and switching over to any of the level detecting units in response to a time constant switching signal to detect a voltage level of an output voltage signal output from the preamplifier. An amplifier variably controls conversion gain of the preamplifier based on the detecting result. A time constant switching control outputs the time constant switching signal to the level detecting unit based on the output voltage signal from the preamplifier, to select the first level detecting unit or the second detecting unit based on a number of consecutive identical digits being equal to, smaller, or larger than the predetermined number.

An optical receiver for stably reproducing packets having different light receiving levels is disclosed. The optical receiver includes: a light receiving element for outputting a current in response to a light receiving level of an optical signal; a preamplifier for converting the current signal outputted from the light receiving element into a voltage signal; a circuit for detecting a consecutive same binary symbols portion from a binary symbols stream of the voltage signal outputted from the preamplifier to output a time constant switching signal in response to a detection result thereof; a level detecting circuit for detecting a voltage level of the voltage signal outputted from the preamplifier based upon a time constant which is switched/controlled in response to the time constant switching signal; and an amplifier for amplifying an output voltage of the level detecting circuit to apply a control voltage for controlling the gain to the preamplifier.

Provided is a data recovery circuit including an input data phase detection circuit for outputting a gate signal synchronized with a rising phase of input data, a gated multiphase oscillator for instantly generating N-phase clocks based on the gate signal as a trigger, data discriminating and reproducing circuits for outputting sampled data of the input data which are synchronized with the clocks, a continuous clock generation circuit for generating a continuous clock which is a reference clock, continuous clock synchronization circuits for synchronizing the sampled data with the continuous clock and outputting the synchronized sampled data as phase synchronization data, and a phase selector for selecting the phase synchronization data having an optimum discrimination phase with the largest phase margin with respect to the input data and outputting the selected phase synchronization data as recovery data.

Data recovery circuit

A first average detecting circuit detects an average of output signals of a pre-amplifying unit that controls an amplification gain based on a result of comparison between an output of the first average detecting circuit and a predetermined reference voltage. A discriminating circuit receives an output signal of the pre-amplifying unit as an input signal and performs a signal discrimination of the input signal based on a threshold. A second average detecting circuit detects an average of input signals to the discriminating circuit. The discriminating circuit receives an output of the second average detecting circuit as the threshold.

Optical receiver and discrimination-threshold generating method

A gain switching circuit switches a conversion gain of a preamplifier that is configured with a series circuit formed with a first resistor and a first switching element and a series circuit formed with a second resistor and a second switching element respectively connected in parallel with a feedback resistor. The gain switching circuit includes a first operating unit that generates a first switching element operating signal for closing the first switching element within a first gain switching period, and a second operating unit that generates a second switching element operating signal for closing the second switching element within a second gain switching period.

Circuit for varying gain of preamplifier

A pre-amplifier amplifies an output current of a photodetector that converts a burst optical signal into an electrical signal, and outputs an electric voltage signal. A gain switching circuit is connected with a serial circuit comprising a resistor and a switch and a serial circuit comprising a resistor and a switch, in parallel with a feedback resistor. The gain switching circuit includes an arrangement to receive the electric voltage signal output from the pre-amplifier, close the switch at a specific bit position, close the switch at the other specific bit position, upon occurrence of a situation that the switch is to be closed, provided that the switch is closed.

Circuit and method for switching gains of preamplifier

A negative feedback preamplifier having variable conversion gain control and variable open loop gain control capabilities which can work correctly regardless of semiconductor process variations. The negative feedback preamplifier used to convert an input signal current to a signal in the form of voltage includes: a resistor which determines the current-voltage conversion gain when a small signal current is input to the negative feedback preamplifier; a diode which switches the current-voltage conversion gain when a large signal current is input to the negative feedback preamplifier; a resistor which determines the current-voltage conversion gain when the large signal current is input; a grounded source amplifier including a main FET which is biased such that its transconductance decreases when the large signal current is input; and a bias setting portion (diode) which determines the bias condition associated with the main FET.
