An image transmission apparatus is provided with a FAX modem, an encoding/decoding section, a digitizer-integrated LCD, encoded image data memory, original image data memory, and additional image data memory. Original image data received by the FAX modem are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory, and the original image data are decoded by the encoding/decoding section. The thus-decoded original image is stored in the original image data memory. An image of the thus-stored original image data is displayed on the digitizer-integrated LCD. An operator draws an additional image on the digitizer-integrated LCD. Data of the thus-drawn additional image are stored in the additional image data memory. The thus-stored additional image data are encoded by the encoding/decoding section, and the thus-encoded additional image data are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory. Then, the encoded additional image data are sent by the FAX modem.

Image transmission apparatus

An image transmission apparatus provided with a FAX modem, an encoding/decoding section, a digitizer-integrated LCD, encoded image data memory, original image data memory, and additional image data memory. Original image data received by the FAX modem are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory, and the original image data are decoded by the encoding/decoding section. The thus-decoded original image is stored in the original image data memory. An image of the thus-stored original image data is displayed on the digitizer-integrated LCD. An operator draws an additional image on the digitizer-integrated LCD. Data representing the thus-drawn additional image are stored in the additional image data memory. The thus-stored additional image data are encoded by the encoding/decoding section, and the thus-encoded additional image data are temporarily stored in the encoded image data memory. Then, the encoded additional image data are sent by the FAX modem.

A portable terminal has a portable terminal main body and an enclosure. If the enclosure is open, and if the portable terminal is in a communicating state after a power switch has been turned on, a memo mode is selected which makes it possible to take memos by input from a display panel using a pen. As a result, a memo-mode display image appears on the display, whereby it becomes possible to take memos during communication. In a portable terminal having a window formed in an enclosure, a normal-mode image is displayed as a result of the power switch being turned on even when the enclosure is closed. If the closure is open, and if the portable terminal is in a communicating state, the memo mode is selected.

A printing apparatus and a facsimile equipment incorporating the same according to the present invention are constituted as such that, when printing an original of, for example, A3 size by a printer of A4 size, the original read in the subscanning direction at reading is printed in the main scanning direction at printing, and at the same time, the image data in the main scanning direction and subscanning direction are enlarged or reduced respectively for printing so as to bring the length/widthwise ratio of a hard copy thus obtained equal to those of the original, so that when the facsimile including a A4 size printer receives the original of A3 size, the hard copy without distortion can be obtained with the smaller printer as compared with the original.
