A joining method providing improved joining accuracy for wheel and turbine shaft. A part of the inner peripheral wall of a fitting hole of a wheel is tapered inwardly from the opening of the fitting hole. At one end of the turbine shaft to be joined to the wheel, a tapered axial abutment portion is provided. In the turbine shaft, an axial abutment portion is provided in a part other than the portion to be fused by welding to suppress deformation at the time of fusion. The axial abutment portion is tapered, and the inner peripheral wall of the fitting hole is tapered, whereby the wheel and the turbine shaft are brought into close contact with each other while positioned coaxially. As such, close contact is effected in a stable manner in the axial abutment portion where tapered surfaces come into contact with each other.

Turbocharger turbine shaft joining method

A turbine casing, a shroud and a gas outlet cover together define a closed doughnut-shaped space. A nozzle driving ring inserted in the space is slidably clamped by the turbine casing and the gas outlet cover. Nozzle shafts extending from nozzle blades are connected through links to the nozzle driving ring. The nozzle driving ring can be driven from outside the space. The nozzle driving ring for simultaneously varying the angle of the nozzle blades is restrained in the axial direction effectively with a high degree of accuracy.

Variable displacement turbocharger

In a thrust bearing for a turbocharger of the type having a thrust metal formed with a lubricating oil passage in communication with a lubricating oil feed port, a thrust bushing and an oil thrower, the inner peripheral wall of the thrust metal is formed with an annular oil reservoir and a single or plural small-diameter holes are axially extended through the wall of the thrust metal so as to intercommunicate between the oil reservoir and the outer peripheral wall of the thrust metal, that is, the thrust load carrying surface, whereby a sufficient quantity of lubricating oil can issue through such small-diameter holes to the load bearing surface. Because of this arrangement, the overall lubricating oil required may be reduced yet reliable and dependable operation can be ensured. In addition, the thrust load carrying capacity can be remarkably increased.

One end of a casing in which a rotating shaft is supported by a floating metal bush is extended to surround the outer periphery of an oil thrower formed adjacent to an end of the shaft so that an oil-thrower space is defined by the shaft, the oil thrower, the casing and the floating metal bush, and an arcuate opening is formed through the wall of the casing so that the lubricating oil trapped in the oil-thrower space is discharged through this opening to an oil outlet.

A shaft sealing device for turbocharger wherein the outer peripheral surface of a piston or shaft sealing ring and its mating surface of the shaft bore of a bearing casing are axially tapered or diverted at the same positive angle toward the high pressure side, whereby wear of the ring may be avoided and the leakage of gases from the turbine into the bearing casing and the leakage of oil from the bearing casing to the turbine may be prevented.

Shaft sealing device for turbocharger

A slinger arrangement whereby the lubricating oil supplied to a bearing of a turbine shaft may be prevented from being sucked through one or more seal rings into a blower when the pressure in the blower becomes negative. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the slinger consists of a large- and small-diameter sections, and a first seal ring is fitted into a circumferential groove formed in the large diameter section and contacts the lower end of first and second air vent chamber casings which is remote from a fan wheel, the first and second casings being axially spaced apart from each other and cooperating to define an air vent chamber, while a second seal ring is fitted into a circumferential groove formed in the small-diameter section and contacts the lower end of the other air vent chamber casing which is closer to the fan wheel. A circumferential oil throwing groove may be formed in the large-diameter section between the first and second seal rings.
