A driving-force-transmitting mechanism includes a driving-force-transmitting component that transmits a driving force from an apparatus body to an attaching object, the attaching object being attachable to and detachable from the apparatus body; and plural operating components that enables or disables the transmission of the driving force from the apparatus body to the attaching object when the attaching object is attached to or detached from the apparatus body, the operating components operating sequentially with delays in such a manner as to move the driving-force-transmitting component in a direction intersecting attaching and detaching directions in which the attaching object is attached to and detached from the apparatus body.

An image forming apparatus includes an output gear that is driven by a drive source, a transmitting member that meshes with the output gear in such a manner as to be capable of advancing toward and retracting from a driving object and transmits a rotational driving force to the driving object, a guiding portion provided coaxially with the output gear and that guides the transmitting member in a direction of advancement or retraction of the transmitting member, and a locking member provided between the output gear and the transmitting member and that limits a movement of the transmitting member from a side of the output gear toward the driving object.

Image forming apparatus having meshed driving force connections

A driving-force transmitting device includes a driving-side joint portion that couples to a receiving-side joint portion provided at an end of a rotatable body and transmits a rotational driving force of a driving source. The driving-side joint portion and the receiving-side joint portion are a pair of involute spline joints including an external gear and an internal gear, a number of teeth of one of the gears being smaller than a number of teeth of the other gear.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus housing having an opening and closing door, an attaching body, an image writer, and a guide mechanism. The guide mechanism moves the image writer in conjunction with opening and closing of the opening and closing door, guides the image writer to a write position upon closing the opening and closing door, and guides the image writer to a retracted position upon opening the opening and closing door. The guide mechanism has a first guide mechanism that moves the image writer along a first guide portion provided in the attaching body while the opening and closing door moves from the close position to an intermediate position, and a second guide mechanism that guides the image writer along a second guide portion provided in the apparatus housing while the opening and closing door moves from the intermediate position to the open position.
