For detecting a component of a substance (of liquid or solid) on a front surface of a substrate, the substrate with the substance thereon is transferred into a vaporizing section, the substance is heated in the vaporizing section so that the component is vaporized from the substance in the vaporizing section, the component vaporized is fed from the substance in the vaporizing section to a detecting section, and the vaporized component is detected in the detecting section.

Apparatus and method for detecting vaporized gas

In a mass spectrometer utilizing an atmospheric pressure ion source, the amount of un-vaporized droplets that reach a mass spectrometric section is reduced. A mass spectrometer comprises: an ionization section for ionizing a sample at substantially atmospheric pressure; a first and a second intermediate pressure section in which the pressure is maintained lower than the pressure in said ionization section; a high vacuum section in which the pressure is maintained lower than the pressure in said intermediate pressure section and in which a mass spectrometric means for subjecting ions to mass spectrometry is disposed; a first pore electrode disposed between said ionization section and said first intermediate pressure section; an intermediate pore electrode disposed between said first intermediate pressure section and said second intermediate pressure section; and a second pore electrode disposed between said second intermediate pressure section and said high vacuum section. A first converging electrode is provided in the first intermediate pressure section, the first converging electrode having an opening towards the first pore electrode and another opening towards the intermediate pore electrode. The opening towards the first pore electrode has a larger diameter than the opening towards the intermediate pore electrode, such that the first converging electrode has a tapered shape.

Mass spectrometer

Firstly, the following check chip is set up into a heater: A check chip onto which a sample has been picked up by wiping out the surface of a check target, or a check chip formed by absorbing and collecting the sample into a filter. Here, the filter has been set up in a vibration-type or heating-type portable-type absorption probe in an attachment/detachment-capable manner. Secondly, a sample gas generated from the heated check chip is analyzed using a tandem-type mass spectrometer. This makes it possible to simplify the sample pick-up from various types of check targets, and to shorten the pick-up time and the checking time.

Plotter

An X-Y plotter is of the type which moves a non-perforated recording paper by drive rollers and pinch rollers. The outer surface of each of the drive rollers is formed with a cylindrical reference surface and with a plurality of minute projections of sharp quadrangular pyramidal shape distributed over the whole outer surface of the roller. These reference surface and minute projections are formed by machining in the entire circumferential or outer surface of the drive roller a plurality of trapezoidal grooves extending parallel and orthogonally to the axis of the drive roller.

X-Y plotter for non-perforated paper

An X-Y plotter disclosed is of the type which moves a recording paper with no perforation by drive rollers and pinch rollers. A plurality of sharp projections are arranged on the outer surface of each of the drive rollers such as to enable an exact feeding of the paper without any slippage. These projections are formed by cutting in the outer surface of each drive roller with V-grooves parallel and orthogonal to the shaft of the drive rollers.

X-Y plotter drive roller arrangement

A pen changing apparatus for a plotter is disclosed. A plurality of pens are mounted on a carriage in alignment with the axial direction of a shaft which is provided on the carriage as the sliding axis thereof. A guide shaft is fixed onto the carriage in the same direction as the shaft. A sliding lever for pressing any of the plurality of pens is provided on the guide shaft such as to be movable in the axial direction of the guide shaft and rotatable around the guide shaft. A solenoid rotates the sliding lever so as to press down a desired pen at the position where the sliding lever is located in resistance to a pen lifting spring or restore the pen to its original position by the urging force of the pen lifting spring. Leaf springs position the sliding lever over the desired pen and retain the same when the sliding lever is moved and stoppers are provided approximately at both end portions of the travelling range of the carriage such as to stop the sliding lever alone at the position over the desired pen at the time of moving the carriage.
