A computer system and its control method capable of allocating resources to a plurality of users in a balanced manner and ensuring information security between the users even when the plurality of users are made to extensively manage a storage system are provided. The storage system includes: a plurality of resource groups defined by grouping of a plurality of resources; a storage area for storing management information of the plurality of resource groups and association information between the plurality of resources and the plurality of resource groups; and a plurality of user groups defined by grouping of the plurality of users, each of the user groups being allocated to at least one of the plurality of resource groups; wherein based on login of at least one user from among the plurality of users, a management device has the storage system execute operation permitted by an authority granted to the user group, to which the relevant user belongs, on the resource group allocated to the user group.

A storage apparatus includes a storage unit and a controller, wherein control of inputting/outputting data from/to a device provided in said storage unit is executed in accordance with a request received by said storage apparatus. An actual device of the storage apparatus corresponds to a virtual device which is external to said storage apparatus. The controller operates to perform a process for mapping an actual device address corresponding to a virtual device address, in accordance with a specification of the actual device to be mounted or unmounted to correspond to the virtual device, and storing and retaining mapping information obtained from the mapping in a first table. In a storage system adopting an external storage connection configuration, a first storage apparatus is capable of integrally managing the cache residency settings made in second storage apparatuses, which serve as external storage apparatuses. The first storage apparatus stores the cache residency information for the second storage apparatuses, i.e., external storage apparatuses, in a shared memory thereof. When the storage system receives a cache residency setting request from a management device or the like, the first storage apparatus issues a cache residency setting instruction to a second storage apparatus with reference to the residency information. An object of the present invention is to integrally manage disk storage apparatuses through virtualization. Some physical storage apparatusesconnected to a host computervia a communication networkare virtualized with a virtual switch, a control unit, and a virtual device. The physical storage apparatus specifies a command when receiving the command from the host computer, and accesses, if the command access has been made to its own physical storage apparatus, a real disk via the virtual control unitand virtual device, and executes I/O processing. Thus, the storage control device of the present invention can use the full-duplex channel efficiently.

A technique is provided in which, even when the number of devices and device addresses handled in the storage apparatus side increases, it is possible to access all the devices and save used resources by simple control of the configuration definition information without adding the device addresses retained on the host side. The host side handles a virtual device for an access to an actual device handled on a storage apparatus side to retain a virtual device address, specifies an actual device to be mounted to the virtual device, and makes an access for data input/output by the virtual device address. A CHA of a controller maps an actual device address to a virtual device address and retains it in a table in a SM, and when receiving the access by the virtual device address, obtains the corresponding actual device address from the table to access the actual device.

A storage system comprising a host device, a storage device, a switching device, and a management terminal is provided. The host device has a plurality of first logical blocks. The storage device has a plurality of second logical blocks. The switching device transfers data between the host device and the storage device through a plurality of paths. The management terminal receives information on the first logical blocks from the host device, receives information on the second logical blocks from the storage device, and generates information showing connecting paths between the first logical blocks and the second logical blocks based on the information on the first logical blocks received and the information on the second logical blocks received. Accordingly, it is possible to get hold of the connected configuration of the first logical blocks and the second logical blocks.

Method for managing computer system, computer executing management program, storage device, displaying device, and storage system

For a computer system having a central processing unit, an external storage unit which records data in a count-key-data (CKD) format, and a storage control unit with a cache memory for controlling data transfer between the external storage unit and the central processing unit, a computer system and data search method is provided which can prevent the performance of the central processing unit from being lowered and can eliminate signal transfer between the central processing unit and storage control unit during most of a data search operation period, by disconnecting the storage control unit from the central processing unit. During the data search operation, upon reception of a search command for the first record, a quasi completion report is issued to disconnect the storage control unit from the central processing unit. The storage control unit executes the search operation by using data loaded in the cache memory of the storage control unit. After data is searched, a search completion report is issued. Since the storage control unit is disconnected from the central processing unit during most of the data search operation period, the central processing unit is not occupied during this period by the storage control unit. Signal transfer is therefore unnecessary between the central processing unit and storage control unit during the data search operation period, making it possible to elongate a physical distance between the central processing unit and storage control unit.
