A supporting mechanism for a valve system such as an intake or exhaust valve assembly including a spherical projection provided on a rocker arm and a support member having a downwardly concave support surface which swingably and slidably supports the spherical projection. The support surface has a recess which can hold sludge at a lower portion of the support surface. The recess is communicated with the outer surface of the support member through a hole formed in the support member.

Supporting mechanism for a valve system of an internal-combustion engine

A combustion chamber is formed between a cylinder head, which has a central recess and planar surfaces on each side of it, and a juxtaposed piston, which has a central recess and planar surfaces on each side of it. Inlet and outlet ports are formed in the head with the axes of the ports on one side of a phantom plane that includes the axis of the cylinder. The juxtaposed planar regions of the cylinder head and piston define a first squish area between those planar portions on the same side of the phantom plane as the axes of the ports, and a second squish area, which is smaller than the first, between those planar surfaces of the head and piston on the other side of the phantom plane. A spark plug is mounted in the head so that its igniting tip is on the other side of the phantom plane from the axes of the ports but is close to the axis of the cylinder bore and to the planar region in which the squish areas are formed.

Disclosed is a variable venturi type carburetor comprising a movable suction piston. The suction piston has a needle entering into a stationary jet. The needle and the jet defines an annular opening through which the fuel is injected into the intake passage formed in the carburetor. The jet is connected to a fuel reservoir via a fuel supply passage. The fuel reservoir is connected to the intake passage located downstream of the needle.

An auxiliary combustion chamber shell of an internal combustion engine comprising a main combustion chamber having an intake valve and an exhaust valve, an auxiliary combustion chamber having no intake valve, a passage communicating the main and auxiliary combustion chambers, and an ignition spark plug whose electrode is positioned in the auxiliary combustion chamber. The auxiliary combustion chamber is pressed into a cylinder head to improve radiation effect, and held fast by the ignition spark plug. The auxiliary combustion chamber is divided into a high temperature portion adjacent to the communication passage and a secluded portion opposite the passage where the temperature is relatively low.

Disclosed is a variable venturi type carburetor comprising a movable suction piston. The suction piston has a needle entering into a stationary jet. The fuel recirculating pump is connected to the fuel tank via the fuel recirculating passage. A restricted opening is formed in the fuel recirculating passage for forming a vacuum zone in the fuel recirculating passage located between the fuel recirculating pump and the restricted opening. The vacuum zone is connected to the jet.

An exhaust gas purifier for an internal combustion engine comprises a chamber therein for burning unburned gas in the exhaust gas from the engine and an inlet port liner for leading the exhaust gas from the engine cylinder into said chamber. The inlet port liner is rigidly fixed to the housing of the purifier by means of weld metal which is poured onto the outer surface of the inlet port liner through a hole formed on the housing of the purifier.

In a manifold reactor for an internal combustion engine, the reactor including an inner core and an outer core of elongated cylindrical form, the inner core having open, opposite ends and being concentrically placed within the outer core in spaced relation from the walls of the outer core both in the radial direction and in the axial direction; exhaust gas intake pipes extending from engine cylinders through the walls of the outer and inner cores so as to open within the inner core; and at least one exhaust-gas-discharge pipe, having one end open to an annular space defined between the wall of the outer core and the wall of the inner core, the inner core is split in the axial direction into at least two cylindrical parts which are slidingly connected to each other in air-tight relation, each part being independently secured by welding to the inner surface of the cylindrical wall of the outer core by means of supporting members. The supporting members may be formed from individual bands or by contours in the wall of the outer core. The bands, when utilized, have a central portion secured to the inner core by weld beads and preferably have cut-out areas in the sides adjoining the ends of the weld beads for avoiding thermal stress concentration at these locations.

An internal combustion engine of lean air-fuel mixture combustion type comprising a subsidiary combustion chamber opening into a main combustion chamber via a connecting passage. A raised portion is formed on the top surface of the piston. The raised portion extends from the peripheral end of the inner surface of the cylinder head to the vicinity of the opening of the subsidiary combustion chamber for creating a squish flow along the inner surface of the cylinder head. The connecting passage is arranged so that a high velocity burning jet injected from the subsidiary combustion chamber meets with the squish flow at an angle of less 90.degree..

Internal combustion engine of lean air-fuel mixture combustion type

An exhaust manifold reactor assembly usable for reducing noxious emissions from the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a reactor casing having a generally longitudinal cylindrical shape in flow communication between the exhaust port of the engine and the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system. An internal concentric core of similar shape is fixedly connected to the reactor casing at the midpoint of its length, and a second connection enabling longitudinal sliding engagement between the core and the casing is provided at another location off-center from the casing midpoint.

Exhaust manifold reactor assembly

An apparatus to prevent after-burning, after the ignition key switch is turned off, in an internal combustion engine which is being warmed up, in which condition the choke valve is closed and the throttle valve is opened to a greater extent than during normal idling. The apparatus includes a pressure responsive actuator which, when activated, causes opening of the choke valve and/or closing of the throttle valve. The actuator is controlled by a switching valve which permits the actuator to be interconnected to either the open air or the air intake manifold at a location downstream of the throttle valve. When the igniton key switch is moved into an off or open position, the switching valve connects the actuator to the intake manifold to thereby actuate the actuator so that one or both of the throttle and control valves are appropriately moved.
