A high-strength ignition coil that can reduce stress produced in a coil case and prevent a casting material from being cracked when the ignition coil is mounted on an engine block. A coil case has a mounting flange on an outer surface thereof. A coil assembly is housed in the coil case. A casting material is filled into a gap between the coil case and the coil assembly and gaps which the coil assembly has. A plurality of first guide ribs are provided on an inner wall surface of the coil case or an outer surface of the coil assembly, for positioning the outer surface of the coil assembly with respect to the inner wall surface of the coil case. A limited area in which there is no first guide rib is provided on the inner wall surface of the coil case which faces the mounting flange, or the outer surface of the coil assembly which faces the mounting flange via the inner wall surface of the coil case.

Ignition coil

An ignition coil is equipped with a sparkplug of an engine. The ignition coil includes a coil portion, a tower portion, and a plug cap. The coil portion includes a coil case accommodating a primary and secondary coils being coaxial with each other. The coil portion has an end connected with the plug cap via the tower portion. The plug cap is press-fitted with the sparkplug. The coil case has an outer periphery from which a flange portion projects radially outward in a flange-projecting direction. The tower cylinder portion has a tower axis substantially in parallel with a coil axis of the primary and secondary coils. The tower axis is offset from the coil axis in a tower-offset direction. The tower-offset direction is substantially the same as the flange-projecting direction.

An ignition coil of a dual ignition type that can prevent outputs from becoming unbalanced due to a difference in floating capacitance on wiring that connects secondary output terminals and ignition plugs together, thus realizing balanced outputs. A coil assembly housed in a housing as a coil case has a primary coil and secondary coils disposed concentrically with the primary coil. The secondary coils are comprised of two coils wound in opposite directions with the center of winding width being a boundary. The center of the winding width of the primary coil is shifted from the center of the winding width of the secondary coils by a predetermined width so as to balance outputs from the two secondary coils. A casting material is filled into a gap between the housing and the coil assembly and gaps which the coil assembly has.

An ignition coil includes a center core, a secondary coil, a primary coil, and an outer core. The secondary coil and the primary coil are substantially coaxially arranged on the outer circumferential side of the center core. The secondary coil includes a secondary winding that is wound around a secondary spool. The secondary spool has a high voltage bracket that includes a secondary terminal. The primary coil includes a primary winding that is wound around a primary spool. The outer core is arranged on the outer circumferential side in the ignition coil. The secondary terminal includes a first connecting portion, which is in a bulb shape, in the tip end. The first connecting portion connects with an end portion of the secondary winding. The first connecting portion is covered with an electrically insulative resin.

Ignition coil having secondary coil assembly and connecting method for the same

An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine, which is controlled by a control unit, includes a connector, an ignition coil assembly, an igniter and a capacitor. The connector is electrically connected with the control unit, and includes an input terminal, which is electrically connected with the control unit to receive an ignition signal outputted by the control unit. The connector also includes a ground terminal, which is connected with a ground. The igniter includes a switching device that switches a coil current supplied to the ignition coil assembly based on the ignition signal received from the control unit through the connector. The igniter also includes a Zener diode that serves as a protection element of the switching device. The capacitor is provided in parallel with the Zener diode between the input terminal and the ground terminal to form a parallel circuit.

Ignition apparatus for internal combustion engine

There is provided a method for connecting an insulator coated wire with a conductive member while keeping the electrical resistance low and enough joint strength at the joint section therebetween without removing the coating film of the insulator coated wire beforehand. The conductive member has upper and lower pieces which pinch the insulator coated wire, and a gap between the upper and lower pieces varies at different locations. The wire and the conductive member have a good electrical connection at a region of the joint section where the gap between the upper and lower pieces is narrow. In addition, the connection strength of the wire and the conductive member can be enhanced at a region of the joint section where the gap between the upper and lower pieces is wide.

Method for connecting insulator coated wire

An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine is mainly made up of a transformer part and a control circuit part and a connecting part, and the transformer part is made up of a iron core which forms an open magnetic path, magnets, a secondary spool, a secondary coil, a primary spool and a primary coil. By respectively setting the cross-sectional area S of the iron core between 39 to 54 mm , the ratio of the cross-sectional area S of the magnets with the cross-sectional area S of the iron core in the 0.7 to 1.4 range, the ratio of the axial direction length L of the iron core with the winding width L of the primary and secondary coils in the 0.9 to 1.2 range, and the winding width L in the 50 to 90 mm range, the primary energy produced in the primary coil can be increased without increasing the external diameter A of the case.

Ignition coil for an internal combustion engine

An electromagnetic coil which may be employed as an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The electromagnetic coil includes a lower voltage winding portion and a higher voltage winding portion. The lower voltage winding portion is wound around a spool and includes a plurality of winding layers overlapped with each other and inclined at a given angle to the length of the spool. Each of the winding layers includes a collection of turns made up of a leading portion of wire. The higher voltage winding portion is wound around the spool adjacent the lower voltage winding portion and includes a plurality of winding layers overlapped with each other and inclined at a given angle to the length of the spool. Each of the winding layers includes a collection of turns made up of a trailing portion of the wire.

A piling machine includes a table with a plurality of step-shelves, a slider and a stopper. One of a plurality of iron strips is placed in a prescribed order on each of the step-shelves, caught by the slider one by one, and piled together as the slider proceeds. When the slider is stopped by the stopper, all the strips are piled up to form a strip assembly. The stopper has a curved front surface to neatly hold the strip assembly, thereby easily forming the strip assembly into a desired shape.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing a magnetic core

To provide an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine which improves high-voltage sealing performance and moreover reduces housing outer diameter, an ignition coil for an internal combustion engine is made up of a transformer portion of cylindrical configuration housed within a housing chamber of a case, a control-circuit portion which is positioned on one end portion of this transformer portion and causes primary current of the transformer portion to be intermittent, and a connecting portion which is positioned on another end portion of the transformer portion and supplies secondary voltage of the transformer portion to a spark plug. The interior of the housing chamber is filled with insulating oil which has a flash point of 180.degree. C. or more, a total acid number of oxidation stability of 0.6 mgKOH/g or less, a pour point of -20.degree. C. or less with no cloudiness occurring before that temperature is reached, and a kinematic viscosity of not less than 20 cSt and not more than 180 cSt at 40.degree. C.

An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine, having a seal between the ignition coil and a plug hole of the engine. An air passage is provided only on a head portion and a pipe portion of the ignition coil to permit air to pass. Pressure change in the plug hole can be equalized with the atmosphere through the air passage. Therefore, it becomes easy to make the seal and to attach the seal to the ignition coil because the seal does not have any air passage.

An ignition coil is composed of a transformer, an igniter, a housing accommodating them and a fixing portion disposed at a place within easy access from an opening of the housing to fix the igniter, a terminal pin disposed at a place of the housing within easy access from the opening and connected to the control circuit and a connector pin fixed to the housing and connected to the terminal pin. The igniter and fixing portion have a member for adjusting relative location therebetween to connect the connector pin and terminal pin without stress.

Ignition coil and method of manufacturing the same

An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine, includes a housing to be mounted in on the internal combustion engine and a coil portion dipped in an insulating oil filled in the housing. The housing is molded of a material containing any selected from the group consisting of polyphenylene sulfide, polyphenylene oxide, polyarylate, polyether imide and a liquid crystal polymer, and a reinforcing filler is added to the material.
