A tandem type master cylinder for use in a vehicle hydraulic brake system and having a pressure proportioning valve integrally connected thereto includes a piston slidably received in a bore in the master cylinder and defining a pressure chamber at least on one side thereof, and an actuating member or a slide slidable in directions parallel to the piston and having a sensing end and an actuating end projecting respectively from opposite surfaces thereof. The sensing end passes through a slit formed in the circumferential wall of the bore to project into the pressure chamber in the master cylinder. The actuating end cooperates with a valve member of the pressure proportioning valve such that when the piston is displaced beyond a predetermined normal reciprocating stroke the actuating member is slidingly displaced to tilt the valve member, thereby deactivating the pressure proportioning valve.

Tandem type master cylinder with pressure proportioning valve

A deceleration detecting valve for use in a vehicle hydraulic braking system having a master cylinder, a first circuit connecting the master cylinder with front wheel brakes and a second circuit connecting the master cylinder with rear wheel brakes. The valve has a chamber, and a gravity ball received in the chamber and movable from a first position to a second position in receiving a predetermined deceleration thereby restricting the pressure acting on rear wheel brakes. A slidable member is provided in the chamber with one end thereof receiving the pressure in the first circuit, and ball guiding surfaces are defined on the wall of the chamber and on the slidable member. When the first circuit fails the slidable member retracts in the chamber, and a gap is formed between the ball guiding surface on the slidable member and that of the wall of the chamber thereby impeding the movement of the ball.

Deceleration detecting valve responsive to failure in front brake circuit

A shoe drum brake of the type including a pair of shoes, a first having a cylindrical portion, a second strut having external screw thread portion telescopically received in the cylindrical portion, an adjusting nut threadingly engaging with the screw thread portion of the second strut and abutting with the first strut, and an automatic shoe clearance adjusting mechanism associated with a hand brake lever, the mechanism comprises a supporting shaft pivotally connecting the hand brake lever with one end of either of the first and second struts, and an adjust lever for rotating the adjusting nut in association with the movement of the hand brake lever. A spring is provided to bias the automatic shoe clearance adjusting mechanism toward a backing plate.

Shoe drum brake

A hydraulic brake pressure control valve including a housing provided with a first inlet connected to a source of hydraulic pressure, an outlet connected to a wheel brake cylinder, and a second inlet connected to a source of hydraulic pressure, a valve piston slidably disposed in the housing and having therethrough a passage connecting the first inlet and the outlet, a valve seat formed on one end of the passage, a valve body having a valve portion cooperating with the valve seat and being provided in a bore portion of the housing communicating with the first inlet, and an actuating piston slidably disposed in the housing and receiving the pressure in the second inlet to urge the valve piston toward the first inlet. The valve body is slidably mounted in the housing and is retained at a predetermined position by a spring and is retractable when the pressure in the first inlet exceeds a predetermined high pressure.

Hydraulic brake pressure control valve

A hydraulic braking pressure control valve for use in a vehicle includes a main body defining therein a cylinder chamber, a first inlet connected to one end of the cylinder chamber, a first outlet connected together with the first inlet to a first pressure circuit, a second inlet connected to a second pressure circuit and to the other end of the pressure chamber, a control valve including a first piston movably disposed in the cylinder chamber to control the communication between the first inlet and outlet, a second piston receiving the pressure from the second inlet and having a piston rod for engaging with the first piston to displace the same in the direction interrupting the communication between the first inlet and outlet. An annular piston is slidably disposed in an annular space defined around the piston rod to define on one side thereof a pressure chamber, a spring is interposed between the other side of the annular piston and the second piston, and an inertia valve is provided in a passage connecting the pressure chamber with the first inlet.

Hydraulic pressure control valve

A cylinder device has a main body having therein a cylinder having an inner closed end and an outer open end, a piston slidably fitted in the cylinder and having a small diameter portion on the inner end thereof, a liquid pressure chamber defined between the piston and the inner end of the cylinder, a cup seal fitted around the small diameter portion of the piston with a lip portion thereof directed toward the liquid pressure chamber and sealingly engaged with the cylinder, an annular retainer disposed in the liquid pressure chamber, a spring acting between the piston and the annular retainer to urge the retainer against the inner end of the cylinder, the configuration of the annular retainer being such that when the piston is at the innermost position in the cylinder the annular retainer engages the lip portion of the cup seal to prevent the lip portion from radially inward deflection.

Cylinder device

A brake shoe clearance adjusting device in an internal shoe drum brake including a pair of arcuate brake shoes, and a strut of adjustable length extending between the brake shoes and consisting a first strut part, a second strut part having male screw-thread portion thereon at least a part of which being received slidably in a tubular portion of the first strut part, and an adjusting nut engaging screw-thread portion of the second strut part and abutting with the first strut part, wherein a retaining member extends between one of brake shoes and one end of the strut and engages with one end of a shoe return spring whereby a portion of the force of the shoe return spring acts to pull the strut bodily toward the other brake shoe.

Brake shoe clearance adjusting device

An improved and reusable stop assembly is provided for employment in drum brakes of the type having an internal lever operably coupled with the brake shoes for actuating the brake from a standby, partially retracted, relative position of the brake shoes to a position in which the shoes are spread apart to apply braking forces to the drum. The improved stop assembly includes a guide sleeve part mounted on the backing plate of the brake and a freely slideable and removable stop member receivable therewithin. When the stop member is inserted into and locked within the sleeve assembly, its inner end engages the lever to hold the shoes in their standby, partially retracted, relative positions against the forces of yieldably biasing means conventionally coupled with the shoes. The stop member may be released from the sleeve assembly by a simple manual rotation and withdrawal thereof to permit the shoes to shift into a fully retracted relative position facilitating maintenance operations, after which the stop member, which is reusable, may be reinserted into the sleeve assembly and relocked in position to hold the shoes in their standby, partially retracted, relative position by a simple manual reinsertion and rotation of the stop member.
