An engine oil composition characterized by containing a major amount of lubricating base oil and (a) 0.01 to 30% by weight of an overbasic oil-soluble metal salt prepared by use of an alkaline-earth metal borate, (b) 0.01 to 5% by weight of a molybdenum dithiocarbamate, and (c) 0.01 to 5% by weight of an antioxidant as essential components, on the basis of the total amount of the composition.

An improvement in a method of lubricating an alcohol-based fuel engine with an engine oil composition, the improvement which comprises using as said composition an engine oil composition comprising a lubricating base oil and about 0.01 to 10% by weight based on the total weight of the engine oil composition of an alkaline-earth metal borate. Thus prepared engine oil compositions for alcohol-based fuel engines of the present invention are superior to the prior art compositions in capacity for neutralizing formic acid, wear resistance, and stability against hydrolysis.

A method and apparatus for replenishing the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine involving, during operation of the engine, continuously supplying a predetermined quantity of new oil from a reserve tank in which lubricating oil is stored to a holding region for lubricating oil circulated to the engine. An internal combustion engine lubricating oil composition adapted for used with a maintenance-free system of engine and having excellent properties including oxidation stability, resistance against sludge formation and ability to clean the engine. The composition is characterized in that it comprises ingredients (A) through (D) below as essential components on the basis of total amount of composition and the total base number of the composition is between 2.0 and 6.0 mgKOH/g: (A) a specific alkaline earth metal type cleaning agent, (B) zinc dialkyldithiophosphate expressed by a specific general formula (1), (C) a succinic acid imide type ashless dispersant and (D) a phenol type and/or amine type ashless antioxidant.

Lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines

Lubricant base oils are made up essentially of 2-15% by weight of a total aromatics content, greater than 60% by weight of isoparaffins and monocyclic naphthenes in total, more than 30% by weight of alkylbenzenes in the total aromatics content and smaller than 4% by weight of tricyclic and tetracyclic aromatics in the total aromatics content. The base oil has great viscosity index, small pour point, high oxidative stability and heat stability and sufficient capability to dissolve sludge.

The present invention provides a lubricating composition for internal combustion engines comprising (A) a lubricating base oil in an amount of about 100 parts by weight, and (B) a molybdenum dithiocarbamate in a amount within the range of from about 0.1 to about 3.0 parts by weight, said lubricating base oil consisting substantially of a hydro-cracked lubricating base oil in an amount of more than 70% by weight (on the basis of the amount of the lubricating base oil) wherein the hydro-cracked lubricating base oil is manufactured by hydro-cracking petroleum fraction and has a kinematic viscosity in the range of from about 2 to about 10 cSt at 100.degree. C., said hydro-cracked lubricating base oil containing aromatic hydrocarbons in an amount within the range of from about 3 to about 15% by weight, sulfur in an amount of less than 50 ppm by weight, and nitrogen in an amount of less than 5 ppm by weight on the basis of the amount of the hydro-cracked lubricating base oil.

A method and apparatus for atomizing oil of high viscosity by a venturi tube, whereby pressurized air is introduced from the outside into a reservoir through said venturi tube, while the oil in the reservoir is transported to the venturi through a conduit, or a suction tube, by the pressure differential between the oil reservoir and the open end of a nozzle and is heated in a heating chamber just before the atomization nozzle which is open into said venturi so as to provide fluidity to the oil.
