A display device operates according to an operation mode which is currently set effective, and operates in compliance with instructions assigned to operation switches when the operation switches are operated. A guide display portion has a plurality of kinds of operation guides which correspond to patterns on a one-to-one basis, and displays any of the operation guides corresponding to any of the patterns that is currently used for assigning instructions to the operation switches.

A digital television receiver includes a CS receive circuit (). This CS receive circuit receives a digital television broadcast signal. Program guide display controller and television receiver

A television including a CS digital circuit to receive a CS digital television broadcast signal. A micom circuit detects a broadcast mode of the digital television broadcast. Where the broadcast mode is in a first mode, or usual broadcast mode, the power supply to a video output section and audio output section, for example, is turned on to output video images and sound respectively through a CRT and a speaker. Also, where the broadcast mode is in a second mode, or radio broadcast mode, the power supply to the video output section is turned off. Where the broadcast mode is in a third mode, or data broadcast mode, the power supply to both the image output section and the audio output section is turned off.

Television receiver

The present invention relates to a television receiver capable of receiving at least digital satellite broadcasting such as CS broadcasting. The television receiver according to the present invention comprises first means for displaying a plurality of program guides in a matrix shape on a display device utilizing one of the horizontal axis and the vertical axis as a channel number axis and utilizing the other axis as a time axis, and second means for displaying air times for the program guides displayed on the display device in the shape of a bar graph that is long along the time axis.

A cursor can be moved quickly between program guides which are adapted to contents set by a user on a program guide screen. There are provided a display control unit for displaying a plurality of program guides in a matrix shape on a display device as well as displaying a cursor for designating a program using one of the vertical axis and the horizontal axis as a channel number axis and using the other axis as a time axis, to display a program guide of a program which is adapted to the contents set by a user and a program guide of a program which is not adapted to contents set by the user so as to be distinguishable, and a cursor control unit for moving, when a command to move a cursor rightward and leftward or upward and downward is entered, the cursor in the designated direction and to the program guide of the program which is adapted to the contents set by the user.
