An internal combustion engine includes: an engine main body demarcating a breather chamber that is partitioned from a crank chamber, disposed above the crank chamber, and has an inlet opening opened toward the crank chamber; a multistage transmission housed in the crank chamber and having speed change gear trains that are respectively supported by a pair of transmission shafts and mesh with each other; and a breather passage disposed above the transmission shafts and extending in an up-down direction from the crank chamber to the inlet opening of the breather chamber, the inlet opening being disposed above a half in a height direction of the breather chamber. Accordingly, the internal combustion engine can suppress the entry of splashed oil into the breather chamber more than ever before.

Internal combustion engine

A power unit provided with a dry sump type lubricating device includes a power unit case that is covered in part by a power unit case cover and is divided into a front unit case and a rear unit case. The power unit also includes a crankshaft rotatably supported by a crank chamber that is formed by the power unit case and a shift shaft rotatably supported by a transmission chamber that is provided adjacent to the crank chamber. The power unit also includes an oil tank disposed on the crank chamber side of an anteroposterior outside surface of the power unit case cover and a hydraulic control device for controlling a shift clutch, disposed on the transmission chamber side of the anteroposterior outside surface of the power unit case cover.

Power unit

An engine for vehicle includes an oil hydraulic automatic transmission for changing the change gear ratio by control of an oil pressure. The oil pressure control unit of the transmission includes a plurality of control valves for controlling the oil pressure, and is mounted to an upper portion of a crankcase. A power transmission shaft interlockedly connected to a counter shaft and having an axis parallel to the counter shaft is disposed on the lower rear side of the counter shaft, and a drive bevel gear on the power transmission shaft and a driven bevel gear are meshed with each other on the rear side of the axis of the power transmission shaft. The resulting configuration eliminates the need for a special measure to protect the oil pressure control unit, and prevents interference of the driven bevel gear with the gear speed change mechanism.

Engine for saddle ride type vehicle

An outer circumference of a shift drum of a vehicle transmission is provided with at least one particular lead groove among multiple lead grooves which continuously extends beyond one circle of the shift drum. Two ends of the particular lead groove are arranged so as to be out of alignment with each other in the axial direction of the shift drum. A common shift position adapted to establish gear trains with two shift stages different from each other is set at one position corresponding to the two ends of the particular lead groove along the circumferential direction of the shift drum. The resulting configuration prevents an increase in the diameter of a shift drum and eliminates the significant change of the shape of a lead groove, even as the number of shift positions set on the shift drum is increased.

Vehicle transmission

A starting clutch includes a clutch inner that is secured to and supported by a drive plate boss fitted to a crankshaft near the end thereof. A one-way clutch is fitted to the outer periphery of the cylindrical portion extending inwardly. A clutch outer forms an annular portion that covers the outer periphery of the drive plate. A hollow disk portion covers the inner surface and is rotatably supported by the crankshaft. The one-way clutch is clamped by the inner peripheral edge of the hollow disk portion of the clutch outer from the outer peripheral side in cooperation with the cylindrical portion of the drive plate boss, and the inner peripheral edge of the hollow disk portion of the clutch outer abuts against a flange portion of the drive plate boss extending along the inner surface of the drive plate in the centrifugal direction thereof.

Starting clutch

A water-cooled internal combustion engine includes a water pump having a short pump drive shaft for reducing the weight and size thereof. In a water-cooled internal engine equipped with a clutch at the end of a crankshaft, a water pump having a water pump drive shaft parallel to the crankshaft is disposed on the axial inside of the clutch, that is, on a central side of the crankshaft.

Water-cooled internal combustion engine

A water-cooled internal combustion engine configured so as to facilitate the change of the cooling system, thereby reducing costs. The crankcase of the water-cooled internal combustion engine is adapted to journal a crankshaft. The crankcase is covered by a crankcase cover from the axial outside. The crankcase is connected to the crankcase cover through an annular shaped spacer, and at least part of a water pump is formed integrally with the spacer.

In a swash plate type hydraulic unit for use as a swash plate type hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor, a plurality of block plates,to,being divided at split planes extending orthogonal to a cylinder block axis X are soldered to one another to form a cylinder block,. With this arrangement, a cylinder block structure superior in mass-productivity is provided.

Swash plate type hydraulic unit

It is intended to provide a swash plate type continuously variable transmission capable of automatically affording a lock-up state in which second distributing valves are stopped at their stroke mid-point to cut off motor ports when a motor swash plate stands upright, even without using any special interlocking mechanism. Second distributing valves for bringing motor ports of motor cylinder bores into communication with a high-pressure oil path and a low-pressure oil path selectively in an alternate manner are arranged in parallel with the axis X of a cylinder block; a valve swash plate for reciprocating the second distributing valves is integrally combined with a motor swash plate on the same slant plane; and the motor ports are formed so as to be controlled selectively by the second distributing valves at respective positions 90.degree. out of phase in the circumferential direction of the cylinder block 4 with respect to the corresponding motor cylinder bores, the second distributing valves being stopped at their stroke mid-points when the motor swash plate stands upright. In a swash plate type hydraulic unit for use as a swash plate type oil-hydraulic pump or motor, it is intended to attain the reduction in radial size of the hydraulic unit while ensuring a sufficient plunger stroke.
